Recommend me a new HVAC system

Can anyone recommend their HVAC set up? I need a new HVAC system for a 5000 sqft home, 2 zones in Climate zone 7. Currently have 2 heat pumps, one in main floor closet and another in the attic that are builders grade. When home got inspected before we purchased it, a trusted HVAC guy I use said I’d be lucky to get a year out of them, so it’s in the budget. Apparently the ductwork looks great, it’s the machinery that’s junk. I think they use Lennox. What systems should I be researching? I want to do it right with a great system with air purifiers, etc.

I'm in the same boat. I need two new units. I've received two quotes so far, another coming tomorrow.
My normal AC guy came in at 16k for two new complete systems. Carrier brand. The other company came in at 32k. Doubt I'll call him back.

Avoid Trane at all costs. I’m unfortunately stuck with two of their pieces of shite that keep crapping out and their warranty is a fricking joke.

How big and what seer? 2 stage? Includes removal and haul off?
Not much info to say if 16k is a good price

Two properties, different models, installed by different companies and I’ve gone through 5 coils in the past 4 years. 3 in our main house, 2 in the rental. They cancelled our extended warranty on the one in our main house, didn’t know we needed to register and when it took a shite it was our warranty because the standard warranty was expired. I’d have to pull it up but basically the raging piece of shite they installed only had like a 2 year warranty or something.
Both pieces of shite have been under maintenance programs their whole life. Trane doesn’t give a frick and told us to get lost. I’ve been fortunate enough to do a shite load of home improvement finance so I get to tell Trane to get fricked on a semi regular basis and refuse to put them on any of my approved vendors lists. So that’s my small frick you back to them.

Usually the best advice is going to come from an experienced HVAC guy you trust - what does he say/recommend?
Have a manual J, D, and S determined to assess heat load, sizing of equipment and duct work, and go from there - don’t assume your current set up is properly sized for the home, particularly one you didn’t build. You may live in an area where this is required by code. HVAC systems are often oversized and duct work under-sized, the only way to determine this is with a proper manual J and D calculation.
A good, highly experienced installer - they are not all created equal - is going to be more important to the performance and longevity of the system than the manufacturer of the equipment chosen.

I had a Carrier Infinity heat pump and air purifier installed 2 years ago. So far, I've had zero issues. Before that, I had an American Standard heat pump. It lasted about 12 years and was mostly problem free.
I went with Carrier this time because a friend of mine owns the business and I trust him 100%. I knew if there were issues, he'd stand behind the product and installation. That was more important to me than the brand.

First, open up your checkbook and get three quotes.
Then spend oodles of money.
Seriously though, we just went through last March. We opted for a higher end, high efficiency 5 speed variable. Great at humidity regulation and comfort. And, because of the starting power needed for the compressor being significantly less, we will be able to get a lower wattage generator in the future.

One 5 ton 15 Seer 2. Installation and haul off. $8500
One 3.5 ton 15 Seer. Installation and haul off. $7500
Complete new install. Drain Pan, Plenum etc.
Does this sound good? Seems pretty accurate from what I can find. The other quote must have thought I was a sucker.

Yeah those are excellent prices - I paid $13.5K for 1 a 4 ton single stage SEER2 15 Trane (gas furnace) changeout this past Feb - 4 quotes from small to medium size companies with good reputation, and at least 3 companies, were recommended by this board. All 4 quotes were within $1K of each other. The quotes were either for Trane or Carrier products, which come at a higher price point, but the equipment manufacturers were secondary to the companies. I did add 1 additional air return duct but that only added $500 to the cost.

I’m thinking 15-20k for full replacement and my AC guy agreed but didn’t get specific. I think he’s a Lennox guy but I wanted to get knowledgeable on products prior to calling. I’m a Matt Risinger fan on YouTube and he talks highly of Mitsubishi equipment but I don’t know anything about the tech.

Ours are about 5 years old and have been great. Have a 2 stage upstairs and single downstairs. If anything I wish we bought another 2 stage. I'm sure other brands are just as good or maybe better, but we've been pleased with ours.
