1.5 mil is insane. I wouldn’t have paid that either for a player only playing for a year.

He'd be paid more than most of the coaching staff, and would be highest paid player on the team...

That's a recipe for locker room disaster.

Is there a salary cap? Why should I get care if we spend over a million dollars? I’d rather have a good defense and I dont give a shite if it cost money. Y’all some boot licking idiots

Because you'll start having good DTs telling you they want $3 M or they're leaving. It will happen, but you don't want to send the message that you'll bankroll people in the portal. No, the message you want to send is that the ones you recruited are the priorities.

Trying to explain this to people in terms they'll actually understand is just banging your head against a wall

I would much rather the coaches spend most of the NIL money on top notch highschool players that will benefit for more than one year.

I'm still going to say it for my own sanity. I'm not so much interested in stats for a DT, but was he all conference? In that Big XII, if he wasn't all-conference, I don't know for certain that he's starter caliber on an average LSU D line. That isn't the kind of guy to throw money at.

The other thing - I'll reserve judgment on the impact of losing a guy who spells his name "Damonic".

Yup, I'm right there with you. It's silly people think just throwing a blank check at the next shiny object doesn't have any ramifications.

Jesus, you're a stupid frick. We don't have an unlimited supply of money to throw around. We have to be selective. Paying a slightly above average DT that much money is retarded. Most of our money will be going towards securing the possible #1 recruiting class for this year & next. Do you not understand the negative implications of giving that guy 1.5 mil?

Not mad about missing on Damonic. Mad about having no talent at DT and being in a position that we need to over pay for an average DT.

No I don’t. We’ll probably never need DTs ever like we do this upcoming season. This isn’t going to be a yearly thing where we pay over a million for transfers, but this year is different.

When we can’t stop the run and miss the playoffs cause our defensive line is bad, you’re all going to wish we offered the $$$$.

fricking bingo.

It's okay for our staff to dismiss a kid asking for 1.5M. But it's still on them because we should never be in a position where we'd even have to think about paying a mid player that much...yet, here we are.

You're assuming that this guy is better than what we already have. There's no guarantee that this guy would even start.

No, no we're not.

Because there's longer term implications, like the message it sends to players that they can hold the program at ransom or that we're willing to throw more money at transfers/mercenaries than our own homegrown guys.

So do us a favor and piss off with your short-term blather.
