TD's resident Cyborg made a few suggestions about guidelines the LSU Coaches might be using to evaluate Portal Transfer Players:
-Take transfers running TO a program, not AWAY from a program.
-Take starters looking for a better program, different scheme and/or more visibility.
-Don’t take backups (except potentially QBs) and don’t take any discipline problems.
-If they can’t excel where they are, they likely won’t excel at LSU.

Here are 2 that are interesting....

S - Gilbert Frierson - Miami - 6'1 210 - 4*
https://247sports.com/Player/Gilbert-Frierson-88506/

CB - JQ Hardaway - Cincinnati - 6'2 190 4*
https://247sports.com/Player/JQ-Hardaway-46085351/

I wouldn't be opposed to one of these guys to take Boutte role as a go to WR

WR - Dominic Lovett - Missouri - 5'10 175 4*
https://247sports.com/Player/Dominic-Lovett-46076945/

WR - Dont'e Thornton - Oregon - 6'4 185 - 4*

We already have a go to receiver Nabers. Boutte was never the go to receiver this year.

Totally get that, but Boutte has incredible potential. IMO he's featured WR type talent. that hasn't materialized itself as much this season.

Really good thread!
I'd say Dont'e Thornton WR from Oregon would be a solid addition. With the losses of Boutte and Jenkins, we're going to need depth.
6'5, 199
Sophomore (2 years left I believe)
Had 17 catches for 366 yards and a score.
I believe he entered due to low playing time, but he'd be a welcome addition for depth.
I believe I saw Coach Hankton followed him on IG so that may be something to watch.

Multiple Alabama Players Enter NCAA Transfer Portal
Wide receivers Christian Leary and Traeshon Holden alongside offensive lineman Tanner Bowles will all be entering the portal.
JOEY BLACKWELL3 HOURS AGO

BAMA CENTRAL
ALL THINGS BAMA
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama wide receivers Traeshon Holden and Christian Leary announced on Wednesday that they intend to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

Holden made his announcement via social media:

"To the Alabama Family, I would like to thank coach Saban and the entire Alabama coaching staff for everything that you have done for me while I was a student-athlete here," Holden's post reads. "Having said that, I would to announce that I will be entering the transfer portal effective immediately."

Holden hails from Kissimmee, Fla., but attended Narbonne High School in California. There, he was ranked at the No. 22 player on the 247Sports Composite.

Over the course of his career at Alabama, Holden played in 29 games, making 46 receptions for 570 yards and seven touchdowns. In the 2022 season, he participated in 10 games, where he made 25 receptions for 331 yards and six scores.

In the Iron Bowl last Saturday, Holden made one reception: a 27-yard touchdown.

Leary, like Holden, also made his announcement on social media:

"I want to thank The University of Alabama and the coaching staff for an unforgettable 2 years," Leary's post reads. "Thank you for the opportunity and the knowledge I have gained throughout that time, in saying that I will be entering the transfer portal."

Leary, who hails from Orlando, came to Alabama as a consensus four-star prospect and the No. 68 overall recruit in the 2021 class according to the 247Sports Composite. This season, he appeared in 10 of 12 games and recorded one catch for six yards in the Crimson Tide's season opener against Utah State.

The vast majority of Leary's work came on special teams. Most recently against Austin Peay, Leary recorded one tackle on kickoff coverage for Alabama.

During his freshman season of 2021, multiple injuries to Alabama's running backs lead to Leary filling in at the position. In total, Leary ran the ball three times for 22 yards against Mexico State and recorded an 11-yard receiving touchdown against Arkansas the next week.

Alongside Leary and Holden's announcements on Wednesday, it was also learned that Crimson Tide redshirt-junior offensive lineman Tanner Bowles would also be entering the portal. As a reserve offensive lineman, Bowles played in all 12 of Alabama's games this season.

Leary, Holden and Bowles are the sixth, seventh and eighth Crimson Tide players to enter the transfer portal and make it six players to have entered over the past two weeks. Earlier this week, offensive lineman Damieon George also entered the portal.

The four players this week join running back Trey Sanders, defensive back Khyree Jackson, punter/placekicker Jack Martin and defensive lineman Braylen Ingraham.

I get Dominic L but Thornton’s numbers aren’t better than Mason Taylor’s and Taylor is your TE.

chris hilton will step up. Nabers, Thomas, Hilton, Bech is a loaded WR core. I can see Bech transferring to a Big 12 school and being a #1 receiver

They might consider Frierson. Graduate and productive player till this Season. Dude will be in his sixth year. This was the least PT he got. 3 games only.
What I listened to said it was unclear why he didn't fit in the scheme this season but the guy loved him as a player and a person.

At first I thought Copeland was the kid who was supposed to be the next coming of Sauce Gardner - no such luck.
Played in six games.
Eta: Really good size at 6'2 185.

I just don't see us taking any receivers in the portal unless Stewart from A$M wants to be here.

There are a couple of Louisiana kids in the portal from Colorado State.

Tywan Francis DB
From New Orleans, went to Landry-Walker
Grad transfer
Could be a Jay Ward replacement
Has some P5 portal offers
32 tackles, 2.5 TFL and 2 PD in 4 games this season
https://247sports.com/Player/Tywan-Francis-46038336/

Devon Phillips DT
From Monroe, went to Neville
6-2 305
33 tackles, 4 TFLs, 2.5 sacks, and 1 fumble recovery last season.
So far offered by Nebraska, Kansas, OK State and some smaller schools
https://247sports.com/Player/Devin-Phillips-46038570/

Anyone know anything about these two?

I don't think Tigers take any WR's. Got some good ones already with lots of potential and a couple elites from HS coming in.
Thornton's height is a plus but he's not very fast. 4.63 is what I saw.
Gotta be able to use those arms to get separation when the legs/strides are that long.

Noiiice.
All other things being equal I know CBK will take the LA kids.
I'd wager that in his heart he knows it's smart to take LA kids but his dedication to putting the best 11 guys on the field means that - as far a transfers go - he's going to offer the best players whether they're in state guys or not going forward. Could be wrong, but I don't think so.
Phillips looks like Wingo some. Productive player, too from what I can tell. Wonder if he could put on 20 and be a fire hydrant.

LSU can afford to be picky. Think about this before posting random players, especially backups. This should be LSU’s policy:

Take transfers running TO a program, not AWAY from a program.

Take starters looking for a better program, different scheme and/or more visibility.

Don’t take backups (except potentially QBs) and don’t take any discipline problems.

If they can’t excel where they are, they likely won’t excel at LSU.
