Hopefully this will be the new freshman rushing record order when LSU gets thru with the bowl game. Saw a previous thread about LF needing 109 yards to get 1000 rushing yards for the year. Fournette has 891 rushing yards so far so I am hoping he gets 111 to break Justin Vincents record that stands at 1001. Hill (755) and Faulk (852) have already been passed and Hilliard (901) should surely be passed to third ALL-TIME with LF's first few rushes. Don't have time to look up Leonards all-purpose yards since he is our main kickoff returner. It's been an impressive year for the #1 recruit out of high school last year. Can't wait to see what the next 2 years looks like watching him run. He has lived up to his reputation for sure. I gotta get me one of those Buga Nation Tee shirts.

He really should be over 1,000 already we didn't feed him enough. Hopefully next year we take him off kick offs, feed him the rock more and get him involved in the passing game. He showed he has great hands early this year so we should use that more.

The record would be broken undoubtedly had he gotten more than 5 carries against Arkansas

I wouldn't go that far. He by no means has been bad, but I wouldn't say his freshman year has been anything spectacular either. Certainly not in keeping with the preseason hype.

Faulk had just as many rushing yards is two less games. And Vincent's and Hill's freshman seasons were all the more impressive considering that they really didn't become heavily involved in the offense until mid-season

I guess ultimately you perceive things how you want, but to me, LF looks like a very good, but not "all-timer" back. Bash away

Kevin Faulk would hold the record if they counted Bowl Stats like they do now. He had 234 yards in the Independence Bowl. But they didn't so Fournette has the chance to set the record now

Fournette was not the leading carrier as far as number of carries in a game until the 5th game of the season against NMSU. And let's not forget the 5 carries against Arkansas before Les just decided to stop giving him the football.

I'd say his numbers are damn strong considering the above.

If he gets 15 to 20 carries a game next year, he will be in the running for the Heisman. He has stayed out of trouble and has hurt at least 5 DB's this year. He looks better than Faulk did his freshman year imho. Faulk got tons of hype because he is the one recruit that single handedly brough LSU back to being a formidable opponent. Faulk had a little better vision his freshman year but Leonard can run over you or around you. The RB position at LSU is as solid as it has ever been.

Kevin Faulk:
11 games 7 starts (I'm adding bowl game)
1086 yards rushing 8 touchdowns 98.7 YPG

Leonard Fournette
12 games
891 Yards rushing 8 touchdowns 74.25 YPG

I'm still taking Faulk

what were the Yards per carry for each?

I still like Faulk though being that he is the recruit that made it cool to come to LSU again. Buga had some great runs and moments this year but our offense managed to not use him correctly. It is a mystery how we just ignore him in the passing but love throwing to neighbors. Line buga up at fullback and have williams behind him. Then let buga run neighbors routes.

also Faulk on returns >>>>>>>>>>> BUGA on returns.

176 is the number of carries for the regular season. So far LF has 891 yards on 176 Carries for a 5.0 yards per carry.
176 carries is also what Faulk had before his bowl game for 852 yards which is good for a 4.8 yards per carry.

891 divided by 176 is 5.0

My bad. You are right because 5.0625 actually is 5.1 rounded.

I don't think you can just use stats as the measuring stick. Fournette has all the tools to be the best back out of this entire bunch, and he has shown it in the second half of the season.

Vincent - had a nice run, but didn't have the same ceiling as these other backs.

Hilliard - looked great his freshman season, but kind of got thrown into a group of guys who were just as good or better than him.

Hill - think he's a much much better back than he showed at LSU. He was obviously good, but I don't think he maxed out his potential at the college level. We are going to see it in the NFL though.

Faulk - was electric. Great college back, and the only one on this list that Fournette still has to catch.

You can just tell the way Fournette runs that he is something special. He has the ability to cut and out run people like Faulk, combined with the ability to knock defenders on their arse. He has a rare combination, and if he remains injury free I fully expect him to be the best back LSU has ever had when it's all said and done.
