Anyone been down to Gainseville for a game?

I've seen the campus police make visiting fans (obviously LSU) tents and tailgates because they were "in the wrong areas." No ropes up, no signs saying "no tailgating,” nothing at all.

If you're drinking, the campus PD will seek you out and mess with you (and be oblivious to the home fans that are doing literally the exact same thing) and end up making you pour your drink out.

It's like they seek the visiting fans out and live to make the experience miserable.

Plus the fans root it on too when they see it happening.


Never going again.


My advice is to sell the tickets.

I've been in Jax since 1990 and have been to every LSU-UF football game in Gainesville since then. You will be fine as long as you don't act like an arse and bring trouble on yourself. It's true that the cops down there are assholes, but keep your beer in a colored solo cup and act normal and you'll be fine.

It's also true that the Gators have the douchiest fan base in all of college athletics. But I typically don't have too hard of a time, although I do hear the stupid arse corndog crap a few times every time I'm there. I also know tons of great people who are Gator fans (wife is a Gator too). But the d-bags do have a funny way of making themselves known.

I would say one word of caution. The angriest lead up I've ever experienced from Gator fans before a game down there was in '98 since we had beaten them the year before in Baton Rouge for the first time in the Spurrier era. They were extra amped up and antagonistic in the hours leading up to that game. Well I expect this season to be the same, if not worse, after the hurricane fiasco last year. As angry as we were, these jackasses were just as angry at us. And that whole scenario will be played and rehashed ad nauseam around here next week. I do expect some very confrontational douchebags down there this year.

Last but not least, where do you live in Jax? We have a club that gets together for the games. Had to move around a bit over the last 7 or 8 years but we're at a pretty good spot right now. Hurricanes in San Marco. We have a great area in the back that they reserve for us. You should come out some time.

I live in Middleburg, so kinda far from San Marcos but I may have to swing by (maybe the bama game so im not pissed off and alone). I'm excited about the opportunity (pun intended) to see my Tigers and experience the atmosphere. Any chance of anything being thrown at me, not trying to get my new Tyrann jersey dirty lol?

The GF says we are the most classless fans in football. I cant wait until her fellow gators prove her wrong.

Yes, I have friends that went to college down there and have always had a good time with them. FYI, be ready for Katrina jokes because the douche nozzles will bring them.

Bars to visit: Salty dog and Balls

Places to eat: Relish, Forks over knives, Bagels and Noodles, Peach Valley, Flying Biscuit, Metro Diner, Maple St Biscuit Co

Not too sure about tailgates spots as I have always been with Gators to theirs.

Oof!! Yeah Middleburg is a haul. But the Bama game is typically the very best game to watch with the group. Have had some incredible get togethers over the years for that one. That said, not sure what to expect this year as we could take a pretty solid beating. Ugh.

We went in 2014. It was not a bad experience but we didn't tailgate. We went to the bars across the street from the stadium. We had zero issues.

Worst road venue I've been to and I'll never go back. The cops legitimately target and harass opposing fans. The tailgating sucks. The people are obnoxious and rude.

I've been everywhere in the Sec except UT, SCAR, and Missouri. I've been welcomed and met good opposing fans everywhere except Florida.
