Rabalais: HBO documentary is a bad look for LSU's Will Wade, but it's not a new look

The Advocate
Scott Rabalais got an advanced screening of the new HBO doc supposed to come out about Christian Dawkins. He talks about how while the doc does not paint CWW in a good picture, nothing in the documentary is anything new in regards to CWW and LSU.

What transpires during next nearly two hours of the soon-to-be aired HBO documentary, “The Scheme,” certainly makes it sound like LSU basketball coach Will Wade was talking about cheating with convicted felon and wanna-be basketball big shot Christian Dawkins (HBO provided The Advocate a link to preview the film). It doesn’t make things look good for Wade, but it also doesn’t necessarily make things worse for him at this time, either.

But is there anything new regarding Wade? Not really. And the documentary is not about Wade, nor Arizona coach Sean Miller, who comes off looking as bad or worse than Wade does, especially since his now-fired assistant Book Richardson was involved in all this mess as well.
quote:
This isn’t necessarily that, unless the NCAA, whose investigators have undoubtedly read the Yahoo! Sports stories and heard the wiretaps, decide to level allegations at LSU.
Then, all bets are off. But that has not happened yet. Which certainly makes you wonder if not by now, when.
There are some elements that weigh in Wade’s favor, other than past assertions that he had never “done business” with Dawkins.
There is the fact that Smart, who was held out of LSU’s 2018-19 regular-season finale with Vanderbilt, was reinstated and allowed to play in LSU’s four postseason games last year in the SEC and NCAA tournaments. The Smart family has denied receiving any improper benefits from LSU, and the wiretaps apparently contain no reference to specifics of an “offer.” Former LSU forward Naz Reid, whom Dawkins and Miller can be heard discussing in another wiretapped conversation in the documentary, has also denied receiving improper benefits from LSU.
quote:
“He doesn’t give a (bleep),” Dawkins says to Miller, regarding LSU’s coach.

Thanks for posting this. I didn't really have the time and was too lazy to do it in the other thread about Forde.

Even if it the words are nothing new, I liked it a lot better when they were just text (that could have been fabricated for all we know ), not actual audio. Will Wade even used that as a defense when he was asked about it the first time he spoke to the media after the incident in May of last year.

Were you quoted accurately? Did you say it?: “I have not heard the recording, so I don’t know. I don’t think any of us have heard the recordings.”

Well yeah it's worse in audio form, but unless there's some new explosive dialogue, it's unlikely that smart would have been cleared for the old stuff had they had enough evidence to do something

I don't hold my favorite coaches to a standard of never lying
Also, he's only a cheater as much as Cal, Pearl, Barnes, etc. are cheaters, and we've seen where a non cheating coach gets us

There’s bending the truth and there’s lying.
What Will did was lying. Straight up

Never denied it... like I said, coaches lie pretty often about everything minor to major.
Did he lie about something big? Yes. Do I care that he lied? Hell no.

Aye you wanna know something cool? Nobody fricking cares bro. Stop crying like a bitch and enjoy the wins.

To be fair that answer isn't a lie... he just didn't answer the question.
At that point he probably hadn't heard the tapes seeing as they weren't public other than in transcript form

It’s silly, hypocritical, or at least extremely naive to single out any one particular coach for breaking NCAA rules when doing so is simply normal, ordinary, everyday procedure in this screwy system. There’s certainly no special place in heaven for Tiger fans who want to self righteously dog their own coach for this.

I can respect this position even if I hold a different one.

I guess I am like Wade in that I don't give a (Bleep)!

I’d trade Will Wade for you every day of the week.
