Casanova is a big guy for db. That’s one reason why he dominated besides his speed. Yeah, he would play safety today in the NFL and likely be an all timer like he did for those 6 years making the pro bowl for 3 and all pro once. Should have made all pro at least twice but he was robbed.
Check out Tre White. He looks tiny next to Tommy.

From a few years ago Tommy with DBU

He was really great. He could close quickly on receivers. Lots of interceptions. Great punt returner too. He’s one of LSUs top all time players.

You know they’re all thinking about how he would never make it in todays game…

He ran a sub 10 second 100 yard dash in 67 at the state championship. He had speed.

A logical flaw people have in these types of discussions is they picture the player exactly as he was, but in today’s game.

They don’t picture them with the benefit of modern training and dietary advances.

From your response, I get the impression that you are young and never saw Casanova play at either LSU or for the Bengals. Tommy played in 71 NFL games with 65 starts over 6 seasons at either the Free Safety (1972-74) or Strong Safety (1975-77) position.

The Bengals CBs in those days were Ken Riley and Lamar Parish.

Nah… know your history…

Jerry Stovall - was second in the Heisman and played db. Johnny Robinson was a running back but ended up in the pros as a db and made HoF at safety.

There were players like Mike Williams (All American CB) Greg Jackson (All American Safety) was pretty damn good.

So many others…

From the title I thought OP would be about the great cornerback Fred Booker.

Friend of mine in Tampa Florida was John Reaves (passed several years ago), was a three year starter at QB for Florida and had relatively long professional career at QB for several teams. John told me several times the best athlete he ever played against in college or pro was Tommy Casanova and it was not even close.

That was at practice in 2016. Pretty sure he was in the pros for 5 years by then.

Tommy ran a 9.8 100 yards as a senior in high school and was even better in the 220.

I played football against him from 8th through 12th grade. He was a bit spindly but started filling out quite a bit his senior season.

Was always elusive and very fast. But he was not intimidating physically until he matured at LSU.

Was also pretty damn cocky but when you’re that good and nice looking, you can be.

What are you talking about? We are the same age. I finished In ‘72.
I said he played safety in the Pros and you referenced him playing safety? Not sure what’s

That guy didn’t need supplements and “training”. They trained and lifted and ran their asses off.
