All the sound comes out of low quality speakers in the north end-zone scoreboard. The speakers are cranked way too high and are not adjusted for the different audio feeds throughout the night (announcer, music, annoying blonde on the field).

Its pathetic.

It echos when half the fans leave after the first quarter. Not sure what you expected.

Huge decline in experience just from last year. It was embarrassing and I couldn’t help but cringe every time the blonde emcee started her shite with that dj. God awful on multiple levels when you consider how terrible the sound quality was for the dj’s music.

The whole idea of having a DJ at a college football game and the emcee girl are 100% worthy of all the complaints they get.

I’m glad you faced your fears and went out to the game today

So, that tells you LSU doesn't care about that. Use the money to buy us a Secondary.

It will never get better. Just look at some of the responses in this thread. Too many Louisiana residents have been conditioned their entire lives to accept mediocrity.

All the sound comes out of low quality speakers in the north end-zone scoreboard.

I’ve talked about this at length before, but the issue is not the quality of the speakers. There is a really nice Danley (IIRC) system installed in the north scoreboard.

The primary issue is that the system became obsolete as soon as they built the south upper deck. In many parts of the stadium, it’s completely unintelligible because of reflections from the south endzone. Before, any sound that didn’t hit your ears just bounced out of the stadium. Now it bounces around the stadium and it’s a jumbled mess.

They crank the speakers in an attempt to counteract this effect, but A) that only goes so far to fix the issue and B) it makes the overall sound worse for many people, depending where you sit.

The reality is that the entire system needs to be redesigned to account for the current stadium layout. The best solution is to have line array speakers located over the field pointed out toward the stands, but that only works in domes.

The next best solution would be to locate the sound in the SEZ instead of the NEZ, but that’s tough because you don’t have a location as good as the NEZ scoreboard on the south side.

If you can’t locate the speakers in the SEZ, the next option is “distributed” sound where you have tons of smaller speakers located around the stadium, all strategically aimed, meticulously leveled, and time-aligned in order to prevent interference. This is a solution that many new stadiums use but it’s very expensive.

I remember hearing that there was an RFP for a new system in Tiger Stadium but I’m not sure if they have the project funded yet or when they intend to make the change.

ETA: I’m a live sound/acoustics nerd for those who can’t tell. One of the biggest issues with audio in large venues is managing timing - i.e. when the sound arrives at your ears. When your ears hear the same sound at different times (either due to reflections or because you are hearing sound from two speakers at different distances), it becomes unintelligible. We are talking about milliseconds, not noticeable echos. It’s a little sad to me that it hasn’t been fixed yet, but it’s a more complex issue than most people realize.
