Per source, NCAA sent a note to membership today saying it believes "it will be appropriate to grant relief for the use of a season for competition for student-athletes who have participated in spring sports." NCAA will start working on issues tied to this & winter athletes.

Brooks Kubena

I’ll look for confirmation and post when I see them

Baseball as posted on another post

quote:

So, baseball players, as expected, are getting a year of eligibility back. The most likely scenario here is getting rid of the 27 players on scholarship cap (for one year) and getting rid of the 25% minimum rule (for one year). We’ll see what the @NCAA decides.

This is going to have a serious ripple effect on recruiting (incoming freshman who wanted quicker playing time might look at other options, sophomores and juniors waiting their turns might look to transfer, etc.)

There will have to be a temporary increase in scholarship limits per sport as well

This will be tough for those sports that split scholarships. I mean do you keep that Sr that wants another year or do you send him on his way for those freshmen you need to bring in? There will def be some cuts somewhere on the team. Hopefully they’ll find a way to work it out so these guys that have put 4-5 years into a program still have a way to finish their careers. Of course you can only carry so many players so,.....

If they grant them another year, they need to address the caps per sport on total number of scholarship athletes you can have or that is going to limit the number you can sign in next year's classes.

Sucks for the new recruits coming in though.
How do you fit them all on limited baseball roster

My opinion is that the NCAA should give scholarship and roster waivers for those senior athletes that choose to return. Not all will choose to return. So make it a case-by-case basis.

Basketball also might be included? Skylar Mays coming back would be huge, him with Javonte, Thomas, watford, shareef, Days, and the 2020 class would give us a legit title contender

I mean they literally played the entire regular season I would have a hard time believing basketball would grant a year

They never got a shot for a Mational Championship. That’s what you play for and the end of the season.

If I had to guess, they’ll probably extend the option of another year to players on all teams who were not statistically eliminated from playing in the tournament.

However, I could also see them offering it across the board for parity’s sake.

But probably half the schools' seasons were already over. Does Ole Miss not get their seniors back but UGA does because they beat them in the SEC tourney and were still alive for the national championship?

If your team is eliminated from post season play, your eligibility is to. Life isn’t fair.

Will the expand scholarship limits to go along with this?

Seems like they should since incoming freshmen might not have a spot if upperclassmen are being given an extra year

I like this idea. Sucks to suck, Ole Miss.
