What a legend…

Actor Bernard Hill, best known for roles in Titanic and Lord of the Rings, has died aged 79.

He played Captain Edward Smith in the 1997 Oscar-winning film. Another prominent role was as King Théoden in the Rings trilogy.

His breakout role was as Yosser Hughes in drama Boys from the Blackstuff.
His agent Lou Coulson confirmed to BBC News that he died in the early hours of this morning.

A statement from his family is expected soon.
Bernard Hill was due to return to TV screens in series two of The Responder, a BBC drama starring Martin Freeman, which begins airing on Sunday.

He debatably had the best performance in LotR. I’d say these were the Top 5 in no specific order:

Sean Astin
Ian McKellan
Bernard Hill
Andy Serkis
Christopher Lee

HM: Sean Bean

He gets a lot of love for his tremendous heroic moments in LotR.

For me the real standout moment of acting was "No parent should have to bury their child."
