Buddy and I were talking about the upcoming PMAC renovations and if it would mean the return of concerts. Or has the river center pretty much taken its place?

They had some huge names come through in its hay day. Looks like Buffet lived here in the 90s Anybody been to any of these and got some good stories?

The Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash occurred on the way to play at the PMAC (LSU Assembly Center at that time).

I think Pink Floyd played the PMAC during the Animals tour. And I had a high school teacher whose husband talked about working security for an Earth Wind and Fire show.
There's a photo that pops up on social media of 70s era Elton John rocking a feather boa, wild sunglasses and an LSU baseball cap. Had to have been shot in the PMAC

A friend of mine managed the Union newsstand in the mid-90s. He said when Radiohead were opening for REM, Thom Yorke dropped by and bought a New York Times and a pack of gum.

They also used to have concerts in the Union Theater, but that stopped after the Red Hot Chili Peppers played there in the mid-80s and people tore out seats and trashed the joint.

You missed the best concert I ever saw.
Pink Floyd
Animals Tour
1977

Played both the full Animals and Wish You Were Here albums and then closed with Money.

What a trip that was.

There were a lot more than that back in the 1970s and early 1980s.
Some of the ones I am thinking of may have been in the Centroplex, but I remember seeing Queen in August of 1980 and in June of 1981 I was standing on the front row next to the stage for the last tour of the Jackson Five before Michael went solo. That was an incredible performance.

Diana Ross and Earth Wind and Fire were a year or two later.

I saw the Who there in 1975, and The Meters opened for them. Also Springsteen played there around 1979 or 1980. My only somewhat cool story
was when I saw the Eagles there in 1977 ( I think). It was Joe Walsh's first tour with them. After about 6 or 7 very mellow Eagles songs, Joe Walsh broke into Rocky Mountain Way, and the crowd went crazy and rushed the front of the stage.. pretty cool.
Also, Glen Frey said that they just finished recording a new song that week and we were the first to hear it.."I hope you like it". It was Hotel California.
I may have my dates wrong, but hell, I'm old.

It’s fun to look at photos from these shows in the old Gumbo yearbooks if you come across them

I know I saw Elvis mother jumpin Presley at the Assembly center as an 8 yo in 1977. I didn't see it listed. And how the hell could it not be.

He was all set to come out, then there was an announcement over the pa saying Elvis was sick and had to cancel. He rescheduled a few weeks later, then died a month or so after that.
