Total trades:

Pels 2024 Starting Line-up:

-Trey Murphy PF
-Onyeka Okongwu C

Primary Bench

I may be over paying Miami a bit. I'd want to gauge the market for Herro for a while before making an offer. Might be able to drop the second Bucks pick from deal. CJ really had better numbers than Herro and is a Heat kind of culture guy. But he's also older and pretty pricey. Still, he's a good vet scorer and Miami likes vets. CJ and Rozier would give Riley a good scoring punch off the bench.

ATL gets Brandon, who is the best player in the deal, 2 1st round picks and good defensive prospect in Dyson. They can give BI a look to see if his length and scoring work next to Trey and Jalen Johnson. He will be motivated (especially if traded) and could help them solve some problems. The Lakers pick next year could also be valuable.

These deals would pretty much finish off the AD/Holiday assets, but I'm tired of sitting on them. It's time to push the chips to the center and go behind Zion. I think Herro is a bit devalued right now, like BI, but he'd give Pels bench scoring and pair well with Zion. Our defense is probably going to take a hit with this bench, but today's NBA is an offensive game. We need to up our fire power off the bench. Hawkins + Herro would do that and Jovic is a nice prospect with some length, essentially a lot of what you'd get if you could take a guy like Filipowski from Duke. I like the starting line up very much. Murray's production is very close to Brandon's, but he takes more threes and is much more of a natural ball handler and decision maker, especially in the clutch. Obviously, a big part of this equation is giving Trey more room to step up his game.

If you believe this, then why are you sending out picks with him?

The team sending the best player doesn’t also send picks.

I like both for the pels but don't see why Atlanta or Miami does them

2 reasons: first, I want Okongwu. He was a top-10 pick and still has a lot of upside. second, I'm adjusting for BI's diminished value. I'm paying a premium because a) I think Murray is much better fit with Zion; and b) I'm not willing to wait and see if BI can recover some value by bringing him back into next season. The clock is ticking loudly on his 4 year/$208 million extension, which I absolutely don't want the Pels to pay.

On why Miami or Atlanta would do these deals. Both Murray and Herro were reported to be on the trade block last season. They will want the draft capital. McCollum/Ingram and Dyson are good players. Pels would be giving real value to get real value that fits better with Zion. I want Trey and Herb in the starting line-up next year. They can play next to Murray & Okongwu. Herro is used to coming off the bench. CJ is not and I doubt if he'd be ready to play that role, seeing it as a demotion...

These aren’t bad and they are at least somewhat realistic

This would be a very successful offseason in my book.

I like trade scenarios in which we slightly overpay, bc they are much more realistic than the ones fans/homers usually cook up. These deals are much closer to reality than many people want to accept. But to get better, we very well may have to take a chance and do some deals like this, that don’t look clear fleeces for us on paper.
