I understand the people saying the interior is boring since many interiors have become overly fussy (IMO) but the trend is going to cleaner less visually busy interiors. How long that will last is up to consumers. You are going to see at least a short-term reduction in switch gear as it is very expensive and can now easily be absorbed into the touchscreens. How long that lasts will again be up to consumers and whether they embrace it or balk.

This is the Maybach GLS600. Other than the pinstripes, it’s not flashy at all. Very minimal and modern.

That has way more flash in it than the GX. It's a pretty ridiculous comparison to try to make, and I think you know it. The lines, patterns, materials, lighting, etc all are way flashier than anything the Lexus has.

But did you see the accessories options available?
I'd imagine many Overtrail owners will be taking advantage of the ARB options, roof racks, bumpers, etc. Accessories available, depending on what's checked, can easily bring it up another $10k+.

Baw, that Merc interior is plain ugly & the most obnoxious thing I’ve ever seen. It’s cheesy & not classy whatsoever. I can only imagine how much it’ll cost to maintain all that digital crap when things start to go wrong…which it will because it’s a Mercedes.

Talk about losing their way. This is supposed to be a top-of-the-line S-Class?! Even this “toned-down” version is a huge let down for such a flagship vehicle. Who designed this shat, with the pinstripes?! And those air vents are atrocious here. They need to take note from Tesla interior & how they blend in their vents with the dash.

It's remarkably common considering that the Tundra isn't that popular relative to other full sized trucks.
They had waste gate issues (electric waste gates are a bad idea IMO), but now they are having main bearing failures that require an entirely new engine - and it's a problem even with the brand new 2024 models. It's extremely rare to see problems like that in a new, low mileage engine that has not been starved of oil. And the issues are hitting the Tundra, Sequioa, and even the new Lexus LX - all of which use the same 3.4L twin turbo motor. There's clearly some kind of manufacturing defect happening. I don't think the engine's bottom end is outsourced to a 3rd party - those are all Toyota parts.
The new GX uses the same motor too, but it's too new to see any issues. I wouldn't rush to buy one just yet unless you are the type that leases them. GX buyers typically keep their cars for a long time, so they will likely have some angry customers soon unless Toyota has quietly fixed these problems in the GX but not in the other models.

Mercedes has no appeal to me anymore. They got blingy and stopped focusing on quality. And they seem to be the car of choice for people who aren't rich but want to pretend that they are rich.
The 1980s W126 was an amazing vehicle that represented the best Mercedes could do with almost no regard for price/costs. Every iteration of the S class has gotten worse since then.
Lexus used to know that you didn't have to have the most blingy design. A well engineered vehicle can be considered a luxury in of itself. The original Lexus LS was a great representation of that. But for some reason the Germans in particular lost their way by the mid 1990s. I wouldn't touch a BWM out of warranty right now.
In theory a car like the Lexus GX should fit the original Lexus ethos perfectly. And it might do that had it not been for their choice of engine. The V35A is turning out to be a rare fail for Toyota. They put effort into designing a good motor, but they are clearly having manufacturing issues - and you can see under the hood that they are using a lot of cheaper plastic connections like the Tundra but (surprisingly) not in the Tacoma.

The 7th gen S Class screen is terrible. Same screen as a 2018 Avalon. The six gen screen is much better! The 2024 GLS still utilizes it, thankfully.

We’ll prob be in the market next year for new GX or even late model. I love the smaller v8 & simplicity of my Wife’s GX, but appreciate the boxy, yet modern look of the new one. I even like the base 1958 Landcruiser with the cloth interior. There will always be teething issues with new engines & platforms, that’s why I never buy first model year of anything, even Lexus. But I do trust Them to make it right more so than other competitors.

The problems on the Tundra engine are so overblown. Out of about 400,000 trucks sold since 2022, only about 183 have had issues. When the Tundras came out, the same shite happened. People were paying $15-$20k over MSRP. I bought my 2023 Capstone for $15,000 off MSRP back in December.
