PORT ALLEN, La. (WAFB) - Autopsy results released by the West Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office show the man killed by a West Baton Rouge deputy on Thursday, July 25 died from a gunshot wound to the back of the head.
The coroner’s office says the bullet severed part of the man’s spine. The man killed was identified by a family member as Josef Richardson, 38. The coroner’s office goes on to say the death has been ruled a homicide. A homicide does not mean a violation of criminal law has occurred. That determination will be made by the district attorney’s office.
Louisiana State Police has taken over the investigation.
The shooting happened around 6:45 p.m. in the 1500 block of Highway 190 W in Port Allen, near the Budget 7 Motel.A West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Deputy was serving a warrant at the motel and discharged his weapon, fatally wounding a man he was serving a warrant to, according to LSP. Get ready for the riots

"He wasn't violent, that's for damn sure,” he said. “He wasn't violent. Very respectful, whatever he chose in life, he chose no different than the rest of us."
quote:

Richardson did have a criminal background. He had multiple drug arrests and in 2005 he was convicted of resisting an officer, battery of an officer, and simple battery.
"He had plenty of interactions with the police, that's not a secret,” Johnson said. “That's cool, that's fine and dandy, that's his past though, but that doesn't count for nothing. That doesn't count for who he was, you know?"

From the original article:

Richardson did have a criminal background. He had multiple drug arrests and in 2005 he was convicted of resisting an officer, battery of an officer, and simple battery.

That could all depend. If there is body cam video that shows he was turning to grab a weapon of some kind, it could be justified. I’m not saying that’s what happened but I’d like to see all evidence before passing judgment during a tense circumstances

Or during a struggle

But the fact that there hasn’t really been a peep, or body cam footage released, doesn’t point to that
