Boomers: What did corporal punishment look like at your school?

I was playing cards with some old timers yesterday and they talked about teachers beating them with either a hickory stick/switch or a peachtree switch. I did some research and apparently hickory sticks were extremely popular with teachers back in the day throughout the country.
All we had, and this would have been the late '80s, were the standard paddles and the paddles with the holes in them in hurt worse by a factor of 3 or 4.

I recall that particular paddle..
Or vice principal was in charge of discipline… he had two rulers held together by wrapping with wire then wrapped with electrical tape.. but to be honest I never saw him use it…
When in elementary the nuns would use a ruler across the knuckles .. saw that in action. ….

Wooden paddle or a leather strap. One teacher used a wooden ruler but it wasnt much of a deterrent.

I grew up in the 80s and the paddle was still in full use. I remember one kid named Derek who was always in trouble and by 4th grade he had learned to wear 4-5 pairs of underwear on days when he knew he was getting the paddling. I think parents had sign an acknowledgment that the arse whipping was issued and that gave him the night to prepare.
