As if Downtown BR wasn't already headed in the wrong direction, now things are looking dicey for Happy's and B&T's

Nightlife was already in bad shape there and has been since SWB fricked with bars where Delgado owned a chunk.

If she kills them off, I hope the Downtown Development District is happy they have supported her over any other candidate.

Seems like it's all his fault for not paying rent

Remember when local conservatives were mad at Kip Holden for focusing on revitalizing downtown?

Now your mad that somebody isn't paying rent?

I’m fine with these places going away.

I’m mad that they intentionally sandbagged other candidates because they wouldn’t promise to keep doing that shite.

In a separate case, property owner Danny McGlynn has sued to evict Boudreaux & Thibodeaux’s, another of Hughes’ Third Street bars, for nonpayment of rent. Hughes is in the process of moving Boudreaux & Thibodeaux’s down the street to a building he bought in 2020, though the lease at the current location doesn’t expire until the end of next year, court filings show.

McGlynn says he hopes to negotiate payment for the remainder of the lease’s term. Hughes bounced three checks to McGlynn’s company this year, and his name is on the lease individually along with that of his company, according to documents filed by McGlynn’s attorney.

Sounds like Happy's and/or B&Ts will be "Under New Management" sometime soon. Wouldn't mind seeing Happy's with a face lift in the main bar area. Wonder if Hughes will sell Happy's to get out of the back rent and lease.

Happy's is one of my favorite places to grab a drink after work. I think it's still 2-for-1 beers during happy hour.

I’m not mad about that

I’m mad SWB killed a thriving downtown as a personal vendetta

B&T’s and Happys are great times. RIP Lucy’s and Lava

I do remember all the hoopla about the "Kipland" project. It was totally misrepresented in the media and would have been really good for the city. But knee-jerk reactions on bad information crushed it.

Really?
An iffy project across the RR tracks next to the Hollywood Casino had no shot. Look what happened to downtown.

For a short period of time Baton Rouge was actually beginning to have a decent night life downtown. Knew it was too good to last.

The height of downtown BR was when the golden triangle (Happys, roux house and Lucy’s) were all slammed.

Then shitey bar opened and that whole area started to go down hill

Peak red star/Hound dogs era.

What I miss is slinkys at the north gates, north gate tavern, and port/cove.
