The 1989 Buick Reatta was the most futuristic car ever made!

Had a full touch screen with engine diagnostics you could run on it and even had a power thigh support...almost 35 years ago.

The auto-reversing cassette player is cringe. Compact discs were plentiful in 1989.

Do what? I knew nobody that had an installed Disc player in their car in 1989. Maybe a Discman plugged into the tape deck but not installed.

For the record I had a 2003 Pathfinder that still had a tape deck. Blew my mind when I saw that thing.

I had a 1990 Ford that had a cassette player, but the CD was an option. Most of my music was on cassette, so that's what I chose. The OP's title said most futuristic.

Buick has always been quirky with certain models and design (GNX, GS, Rivieras, high torque engines). The cost for those vehicles was high during their time and yer their market was largely older folks.

I knew many people that had cd players in their cars in 89. They skipped like hell, but they were out there in use.

Since you’re using the word “cringe” I’m going to guess that you weren’t there.

The first OEM CD player first showed up in Lincoln Towncars in ‘87 and were only in high-end stuff until about the mid 90’s.

There may have been a six-disc changer in the trunk, though.

White one in the Total Wine parking lot in Mandeville that is straight up awesome.

They put some cheesy wheels/rims on it, but it still looks rad.

Yea I don’t remember my parents or grandparents having cd player then. Not until my parents got a 96 or 97 Chevy Silverado did we have one. My grandparents drove early 90s mercury grand marquis and it only had cassette player

These cars bring back memories of way too much plush carpet and cloth combined with a smooth floating ride and stale cigarette smoke leading to young deltaland getting car sick

Same for 2001 Maxima. Had CD and cassette for a while in their vehicles.

Oh, I was there. Embarrassingly, my first CD purchase was Different Light by The Bangles which was a compromise with my younger sister.
