They will contact you at your address on record 90 days before expiration.

I was not contacted with only 60 days remaining on mine so I took the initiative and started the process myself. After taking the class I had my approval and paid within a week. Waiting on the physical card to come in now.

They recommend 90 days. I believe there is a 60 day grace period after expiration to submit paperwork without having to go through the entire process over again.

I was not contacted and mine expired. I have to go through the application process as a first timer

Mine expired last DEC but I turned in my paperwork in OK back in November and I'm still waiting for them to get it processed. Not sure about where you are but if its a couple months before your license expires I would go ahead and start.

I’ve always heard to go take everything to LSP HQ in BR for the fastest processing.

I did all of mine online. Got new card in 2 weeks
Did it about a month before my card expired

Good to know. Won’t bother driving all the way to BR then.

Same here. Mine expired by one day.
A month went by and I didn't get any updates. Finally called them. There was an error because the address on my DL was outdated - the same DL and address I'd used to get the CC permit, but whatever. So, I went to the courthouse to update my DL address. The 100 year old lady said there was some kind of errors on my file and I'd need to go to the State Trooper's office to get it resolved. I got over there at about 3pm and there were a couple dozen people waiting and they weren't giving out any more numbers for the day. Pissed, I went home. The next day I contacted the state tooper's office and they told me there was probably just a system error with the 100 year old lady's computer (which is what I figured) and that I could update my address online. I did that but I still haven't received my updated DL though. I think I'm just going to go back to the courthouse next week with my paper DL and see if they'll give me the CC permit I applied for a month and a half ago.
What I'm trying to say is, I hate goverment offices.

Are there places that offer online courses? Or were you just referring to the paperwork alone?

The class certificate is valid for one year. You can't submit your application any sooner than 90 days or 120 days prior to expiration (can't recall which).
You must submit your application within 60 days following expiration or you'll have to apply as a "first time" applicant rather then as a renewal applicant.
If the application process is done online, it has been taking about a week to get the new permit (based on reports I get from my students).

I'd submit your renewal as early as allowed. OTOH, I don't trust the "timeliness" of government agencies. In addition, my first cc permit expired during the renewal process after I submitted it 3 months before expiring.

Ok. Now that we got that out of the way..submit paperwork asap.
I need some names of instructors in the Mandeville/ Covington area. I'm aware of Bearco.
Any recommendations?

Did Bearco's online renewal last month, definitely recommend. After class, just have to reach out to a few instructors he collaborates with and schedule a shooting session. I did mine at The Shooter's Club in Nola where the instructor signed the certification.
Went through online application process and got my new card within 2 weeks.

Was wondering about the online classes for my next time. That sounds like a good way to do it.
Going to LSP in BR is only really needed for fingerprints the 1st time or if you let it expire to long and have to do them again. Can do it all on the LSP website, fill out, scan submit. Wait for an email for payment then you get it soon after that. Unless something changed that's how it was 2 years ago.

If you go to FRC gun range to take you renewal class they have a notary there that will process you paperwork for $36. You fill out some forms between class breaks and they do all the filing. When class is done they shoot the payment link to you. Usually less then a week to get your permit.
