How many of you have successfully removed an A2 front sight with no issues?

Aero Precision must have straight welded these effing taper pins in place because these things haven’t budged.

Thy driving them the other direction.
You’re no Larry Potterfield, baw.

The other direction is where they were hammered in.

I think you’re to the point now of just grinding the bastard off

I actually wanted to keep it. I specifically bought the Daniel Defense RIS II with the FSB cutout.
You have to take it off to install the DD barrel nut.

You sure? Are they tapered?
Hold your punch with a pair of pliers and knock the shite out of it.
That jakeleg vice contraption is absorbing the shock.

Ball peen hammer, break the sight post. Order another one with new pins.
The tapered pins are supposed to be installed right to left.

Aren’t these usually made to fit. A new one may not have holes that line up.

So to remove them, hammering them out left to right.
What’s crazy to me is that I can’t even see a seam between the pin and the base.

This guy is correct. I have done a bunch of these and it has to be absolutely solid or it won't work. I usually end up doing it on the shop floor. It's a PITA as you have to get the rifle propped in place so it won't move around. They also make punches specifically for FSB removal that are way heftier than the ones you already destroyed and a special block that is marked REMOVAL and ASSEMBLY that ensures you are pushing the correct direction. Check Brownells for those.

Email Aero and ask. They’re normally pretty responsive

I messaged them on Facebook but it was after business hours. It’d be nice if they’d exchange it for me, but that’s probably wishful thinking.
It’d be even more nice if they sent one that was pre-fit and disassembled so I wouldn’t have to worry about doing it like this again.

Actually, use your vice to push them out.

Tried that, too. Couldn’t get a good position on it
Posted on 10/7/23 at 8:25 pm to finchmeister08
Cut it off. You've already trashed it.
Posted on 10/7/23 at 11:16 pm to finchmeister08
They are tapered. The only come out one way. I think it’s left to right
Posted on 10/8/23 at 7:40 pm to finchmeister08
I removed one about a month or so ago, but it was one from PSA. Went well.
Have you tried heating it up with a propane torch first?

I had to grind them off with a carbide tipped dremmel
Posted on 10/9/23 at 8:08 pm to finchmeister08
I didn't have any use for it so I just cut it to shite.

so i had to ship the barrel off to a gunsmith to salvage it. the guy did an awesome job.
John Thomas out of Retro Arms Works in Warsaw, IL. he was highly regarded out of multiple subreddits and other firearms websites.
he welded in new steel that i had removed with my Dremel and refinished the FSB. turned out pretty good.

Have you tried just drilling them out?
