In shocking news to no one paying any attention, Richard Nelson has thrown his hat in the ring to be our Governor. He’s a sharp dude that is capable of thinking outside the traditional box to get results for our state. A policy whiz that has seen the world, but wants to make to make a lasting impact on his own state.

So far, I think he's the only candidate with N LA ties (his wife). Once his name permeates the state, I think a lot of people will be impressed.

His announcement

This is a silly move. Schroeder is a solid conservative with more experience. Nelson would do well in the next cycle. He’ll just be undercutting conservative votes, and handing the GOP nomination to no-balls Landry.

Just the entertainment value will be priceless... watching the Old Guard scurrying for cover when Nelson unveils his plan to bring the state up to average. They will condemn what they (or their constituents) don't understand. Nelson won't capitulate to the prevailing stupidity that keeps Louisiana pinned down.

His main challenge: Louisianians don't want good government. They want "pretty good" government.

Nah.

His main challenge is good ole boy network connections and he needs to make people feel like he is one of them which takes charisma.

His video is hilarious.

Someone smarter than me needs to link it here.

Rich's biggest problem, if you want to call it a problem is that he is very smart and thinks out his positions. He's an engineer by training , so he is very logical. He does not play politics.

He wants to eliminate the state income tax, but that may necessistate looking at other taxes and how they are structured like property taxes and the homestead exemption among others. His biggest challenge would be overcoming the red meat issues that really have nothing to do with improving the economic conditions of most people. He's not going to get sucked in to debates about abortion, CRT and the like. He would focus on economic viability and crime because the two go hand in hand.

I kind of like the dinosaurs in this video. Very apt description of LA politicians both Republican and Democrat.

One thing you will get from Rich, is a straight answer when you ask him a question.

I like that it’s efficient and not a heavy-handed six-minute manifesto.

“ Not a thing.”

No $hit. But only one Republican at best is going to make it to the run offs, especially with all of this undercutting. If the democrats have two solid picks, they might sneak in both.

Nelson is handing this to Landry, and we know how ball-less Landry is.

That goes hand-in-hand with teaching people how to frickin' READ!!! That (and other fundamental educational items) are a top priority with Nelson.

Richard is incredibly smart and is genuinely a good guy. His lack of name recognition will be tough to overcome. His positions are conservative, but he will always listen to and try to understand the counter-arguments. I hope people get to see him on the main stage against the other candidates. He is a far more impressive candidate than a lot of people realize right now.
