Phillips Hue Lights

I'm looking at getting some Hue lights for my house. Where is the best place to get the best price per bulb? I've checked on ebay and the bulbs are a little cheaper than I've found elsewhere online. Is there some sales throughout the year to lookout for or just slowly buy bulbs when replacing old ones?

They don't go on sale often.
Some are on sale right now, but the prices were better for Black Friday.

I just bought my first bulbs at Best Buy. They currently have a hub, 3 color bulbs, and a dimmer for $119.

This. You might keep an eye open for refurbished items or wait patiently until they go on one of the two or three sales they have per year. When they do go on sale, it appears to be a manufacturer's sale because all of the retailers go on sale at the same time. Also, you'll see the Philips Hue system explicitly excluded in the fine print on things like Bed Bath and Beyond's 20% off mailers. I suspect that Philips has that price point on lockdown.
Otherwise, you're pretty much paying full freight. I just spread my purchase out over about a year to soften the blow. Living room first, then master bed, then master bath, then guest bath, then guest room, then foyer and front porch.
I'd probably have done the front porch sooner had I known how nice it is to be able to tell anyone making a delivery to your house to look for the orange porch light.

They never really go on sale. They were $10 off everywhere on Black Friday but that’s all I’ve really seen.

Are these things worth it?
I have a few wemo outlets, an Apple Homepoad and an Echo, which has been pretty neat. My mother in law gave me a hue bulb for christmas, but no hub

I'll never go back to non-smart lights again. I'm slowly converting my house to the Hues. I like when I pull in the driveway my lights come on. I like the wake-up function in the morning. I like how I can turn my side of the bed off and keep my wife's side really dim as I go to bed early and she can still have light to come in the room later in the night. My wife swears by it in the baby's room for late night stuff where she can control the warmth and brightness.

Worth it to spring for color?
Do you have them in lamps?
Most of my house is recess lighting, which they’ll work fine with but I need 4 per room. Also, the 3 way switches seem to be problematic. Basically need to stop using switches and get an echo for every room?

I only have the Hue White A19's and I got 4 of them for $10/bulb which is about as cheap as those come. They work great, but still feel like a bit of a rip off at $10/bulb.
No idea how people feel fine throwing $30+/bulb at the color ones.
These things will be so much cheaper in a couple years.
Keep in mind you need a hub, I have a Amazon Echo Plus so mine is built in that.

I’ve been slowly buying the color lights for all of my lamps and it’s truly awesome.
I have he light strips under my cabinets in the kitchen and will eventually add some on top of the cabinets.
Just buy one bulb every month

Yes, but do it in batches. I started with one room, as I mentioned earlier, to see what it was all about. Once I realized that I could with a single command light the bias lighting behind the TV to the exact white temperature I needed, kill all of the lights in my visual field and turn all the rest of the lights a dim red when I wanted to watch a movie, I was hooked.

Yep. A lamp is just a light fixture on a stick. As long as it can be left powered on, Hue will work in it. You may need to find a shade that doesn't monkey with the color too much, though, if it's something you end up noticing too much.

I've heard of some people that don't go with full white and color ambiance in every fixture, but alternate with the plain white ambiance. You can set the system up to have all the lights on for your lighting scenes and to turn the white only lights off when you want colored ambiance lighting. I personally opted for full color everywhere.

Couldn't tell you anything about the switches. I have motion sensors and I was already in on Echo in every room before I started Hue, so my experiences naturally revolve around the idea of setting everything up and having completely hands free control as I move around my house.

I got a few of these for Christmas and boy do we love them. Had I known what an awesome effect they'd have on my home, I would have bought in much sooner.
Now I have them in 6 recessed cans in my living room, 2 lamps in my bedroom, 1 in the shower. In time we want to do the kitchen, and replace all the old fluorescent cabinet accent lighting with hue lightstrips.
Honestly more than anything I love setting them to the fireplace setting. They flicker orange/red and create an aura of a fireplace within your rooms. Once sundown hits, I put that on and relax.
While I play video games, my girlfriend likes to watch and set various appropriate Hue light animations from the many apps that are available. It's a really fun setup.

I’ve had my lights outside for about 6 months without any issues.

When the Gen 3 recessed color lights came out, Bed Bath and Beyond had a misprint in their catalog and had them for $14.99 (Bulb is normally $49.99) each. I needed 27 bulbs for my whole house and I ordered them and they honored the order, lol. I usually only use the color function during holidays, parties or football season. I haven’t had one bulb burn out yet. Highly recommend them. As far as deals now I’m not sure but I have seen them at $30 each a few times after that.

From some research I've done it seems there are cheaper options than the Hue lights that offer a better value.
