I haven't spoken to my father in 41 years. I wish I could talk to him everyday.

Someday the decision to speak to him won't be yours to make.

Are the vaxxed getting the virus? If the answer is yes then they are also spreading the virus.

What's worse is that they were so intentionally vague about the subject of whether there's any benefit of stopping spread at all, but allowing the belief to take hold and grow grow grow that there is such benefit, that for quite some time countless vaccinated people went around thinking they couldn't spread the virus. So of course it's obvious what that led to, and still does to this day.....double the spread that quite possibly wouldn't happen otherwise but for the fallacious belief that one is protected from spread. Thanks Brandon.

My wife had a similar albeit not as contentious exchange with her dad about getting my 14yo son vaccinated. He hung up in tears.

Where does your wife's dad, aka your father in law, stand on Trump? Serious question.

I totally agree. Both sides.
Luckily it hasn’t been a family issue tho. No one in my family really gives a shite either way.
Mom and dad are both Trumpers, but dad is a doctor. He doesn’t need any Facebook memes or YouTube videos to help make his decision. He’s vaxxed and boosted

Are you insinuating that "Trumpers" typically must rely upon Facebook memes or YouTube videos to make decisions?

I have had a similar clash with my older sister (an RN). Told her I respect her decision and that she has to respect mine. We remain on very cool terms (at best).

He voted Biden. Apparently the made up story about Trump saying veterans were “suckers” is what pushed him.

He’s a Korean War veteran.

Married a progressive WA lady and I’m sure he’s been pushed to the dark side by her.

He has some great qualities but by an large he’s a douche.

Have had a lot of tension with my whole family about not getting vaccinated. Will go on unpaid leave after the 1st as I have lost my deep water position due to vaccine mandate. They can’t understand us, we just have to square with that.

One more family ripped apart.

Sorry to hear that . Religious Fundamentalism tends to destroy family relationships. Send him a link to Bret Weinstein’s Dark Horse podcast daily. It’s delivered like your standard fare NPR podcast in measured white urban tones but with the Covid reality. Hopefully the light will come on .

This is what I think it all boils down to....it's a proxy battle on any and all issues between pro-Trump and anti-Trump.

In this instance it's anti-Trump is associated with pro-vax, and vice versa. Which is bizarre, given Trump's having clearly stated his favor towards the vaccine, which of course he would, he had a quite prominent role in the creation and production of it. Note: of course that doesn't mean he's in favor of any mandates, he's very much not as we know.

Frankly, I believe if somehow the roles were completely reversed, if it had somehow been pro-Trump were unequivocally associated with pro-vaccine, someone like your FIL may very well be suddenly and strangely opposed to the vaccine, simply due to being opposed to Trump, full stop. If that makes any sense. It's a very strange phenomenon.

Sounds like you ex-communicated him. Who’s in the cult?
