After reading all the recommendations to have a spare A/C capacitor, just in case, I want to get one for my 4 year old Amama A/C.

So while doing my annual coil cleaning a couple of days ago, I also looked at the capacitor. This is what is written on it:
CAP050400CT
CN400-4005RA
2017-11-014

After looking on Amazon, I found these 2 AmRad brand capacitors. Are both of these a match to replace the one on my A/C? It looks like the numbers describing the capacitors have different letters on the end. Will either of these work for my A/C?

Doc Brown and Marty should have thought about bringing a spare.

Complete piggy back off of your thread. My unit is 8 years old, how often do y’all service AC units for tune ups etc

Used to have someone out 2x per year, spring and fall.

Now, only when something’s wrong. Don’t see the point in having these service/maintenance contracts.

For $300 a year they come out twice for two units. Definitely worth it.

What does this include exactly? I've never used such a service but don't see where I would need it. I just spray the coils with a can of coil cleaner once a year and put a pad in the pan to prevent slime. Maybe $10-$15 per year.

Yes - both those appear to be a match and will work. AmRad are good capacitors.

The main thing I look for it\s them to check the Freon and treat the drain line in the summer. I don’t have mine serviced in the winter, but if I did, I would expect them to check exhaust and heat exchanger for leaks and check to see if the gas burner is operating correctly.

I am also thinking about getting a spare capacitor for my unit.

Buy a coil gun and coil cleaner while you're at it so that you can self maintenance your condenser.

No advice but thumbs up on the spare capacitor. It has saved me once in August.

And what are they doing when they are out there?

My unit is 19 years old, and has never been serviced. I just clean the coils annually. I don't know if I'm lucky or if those services are just not necessary.

Edit to add I also run some bleach through the drain line every 12 weeks or so.

When I was looking on Amazon for the AmRad brand [made in USA] it was not one of the 101 items listed. I had to do some looking to finally find it. The made in China ones are about 1/2 the price.

4 years ago, My old A/C stopped working while I was out of town for a few days. My wife stepped up and got a whole new unit put in. There was a few phone calls over the next couple of day.

Very common part to fail on AC systems. I have had to replace several over the last 35 years. The cost last time was $275 in 2020.

Buying spare Capacitor

the uf numbers are the only ones that really matter

those are the rated capacitor size, but also be sure the max volts match because some cheap capacitors arent rated for 440v max
