Getting to the business end now.

Seems like yesterday he was the youngest kid at camp. Not anymore. Was fun.

I assume a hire will be announced before spring practice.

I'm not very concerned to be honest. I think last year was the bottom with special teams so it can only go up from here, even if BK hires Joe Blow from the Rant.

Both of our kickers made the Freshman All-SEC team.

Yeah, I was a bit worried the way Ramos started, but while he’s not (at least yet) a Cole Tracy or Cade York, he developed into quite a solid kicker.

It looked like the whole unit was brand new to start the year…they got remarkably better. Long snapping is fascinating skill.

I don't think special teams issues were related to talent at those positions. We never identified a competent PR man, our blocking and strategy related to this were terrible. Overall, our our ST had penalties at inopportune times. Hell we couldn't block an overloaded front for extra points and didn't adjust against FSU.

Those are the things I want to see improved in 23.

I know Diaco has prior connections with CBK, but is he particularly a special teams guru?

My guess is he’d come aboard as a consultant, which at LSU would probably pay more than being a position coach in the USFL and be a better track upward.

The people who kept blaming it on depth were just looking for excuses. Depth obviously helps special teams, but the problems were much worse.

LeVar Woods from Iowa was mentioned by Scarborough as one of 2 finalists
The other being Biagi.

Seems that Woods would be a solid hire; he’s had consistent success as a dedicated special teams coach and he’s a good recruiter. His experience coaching LBs and TEs may also come in handy.

Seems like he would be the top guy to take over for Ferentz once he steps down.

Unless nepotism wins with Ferentz’s son. The fact that he’s their OC & the offense is the worst part of that team makes me think Woods is the better candidate.
That may be a good enough incentive for Woods to leave though, but he’s an Iowa guy as that’s the only place he has played or coached his whole career.

We get Wood and we running shite. Special teams cost us FSU, buried us vs UT and UGA.

Guy takes no talent and makes them a top unit year in and out.

You’d have to credit Woodward for bringing in Kelly wouldn’t you

Other than the mcmistake that is currently shitting up the pmac, Scott does a good to great job hiring. BK and JJ were great moves, Kim was good just not in a sport that matters much to me.

Scott’s issues are his contracts and his inability to lower O down despite the evidence he had to do so. Scott also leaves a lot to be desired when dealing with his family Mark E and the media. He has given them statements that hurt the program and he made it look like dickie v and Forde run our program because mean tweets upset him.

I would much rather over pay and get results than us be cheap. We win it’s good but when you give O, Bo and others massive contracts that bend us over it’s an issue.

Scott is better than Joe alleva but no where near greatest ever like some even myself thought he could be.

I get the frustration people have with Scott and how he gives high $ contracts, but it is his style and has worked way more than it has cost.

O isn’t really his issue and with the dirt had on LSU Football, it was better to just pay out and move on. I am extremely disappointed with basketball, but it might have very well taken this type of contract to convince a majority of coaches to come to LSU with all the negative press.

All in all, we are extremely early in the timeline of Woodward’s reign as AD. If Kelly ends up winning 1 or 2 NCs, paired with Jay doing he same with consistent Omaha appearances, I think he could be considered as one of the best.

Either one would be huge improvement and would have added at least one more win last year
