We completely remodeled our house a few years ago and had all new 3/4" wood floors put in. I lobbied for no shoes in the house, even for guests, as it makes cleaning the floors a breeze. The wife, who's not as OCD as me, nixed that idea.
That said, we rarely wear shoes when home inside the house, they get kicked off in the closet.
