Delta flight 1482 from New Orleans to Salt Lake City was cancelled Friday evening after being told to reject takeoff when another aircraft crossed the hold short line on the taxiway in front of it. The Delta Airbus A321 was already accelerating down the runway for its takeoff roll.

These seem to be happening more often. I haven’t listened to ATC yet. Pilot was worried about hot brakes so the flight was delayed then ultimately cancelled.

Small price to pay to ensure that our pilots and air traffic controllers have enough diversity.

Why the F is this happening more often.

Felt like I never ever heard about this stuff even 5 years ago.

Being the most qualified is no longer a big consideration when companies are hiring

Oh wow interesting. Sounds like ATC and DAL1482 did everything correctly, including not giving it a second attempt at takeoff.

"Near Miss"
I'm glad this wasn't a thread about an almost convincing tranny.
MSY is such a shite show

If you listen to the ATC at 16:00 and 18:00 in, you'll hear that some dumbass Learjet pilot is responsible.

Seems like the opposite of a diversity issue.

Shouldn't the event be called "near hit", rather than "near miss"?

It’s probably not happening more often than it used to.
A few big events happened and now every event becomes a news story to help sell fear porn.
Just like the train derailments

Agreed. Always hated the phrase near miss. That translates to an actual hit that was almost missed.

The real question comes into play.

1: how diverse is the ATC workers?

2: do they acknowledge correct pronouns

3: why are there not all female pilots?

Please excuse my ignorance, but why did they cancel the flight? Was it because the plane had to brake so hard that they were worried about damaged brakes and/or tires? Or did the pilots have to change their drawers?

If the brakes are too hot or the hydraulic pressure is too low it’s not safe to takeoff in the off chance you have to abort.

For instances like in the OP.

Also, depending on what speed they aborted at a mechanic may be required to inspect the entire wheel assembly.

Airlines and ATC are having to hire from the same diminishing quality labor pool. We are truly getting dumber by the day. Throw in diversity hires and its a miracle more accidents aren't happening. I fear for my grandchildren.

Disagree. Think about the phrase "close win". It was a win, but it was close.

"Near miss" is the same thing—the most important bit of information is that it was a miss.

Not a near miss that is a runway incursion. I know some controllers at MSY but didn't recognize the voice. To determine who is at fault you would need to hear Ground Controller and if he issued a hold short runway instruction with a pilot read back.
