ApoB shows you what % of your cholesterol is LDL
Standard cholesterol labs measure the amount of cholesterol carried within a lipid particle. The scientific name of a non-HDL lipid particle is the Apolipoprotein B particle ("Apo B"). When you get an Apo B measurement you are getting a measurement of the amount of the non-HDL cholesterol carrying particles instead of the amount of cholesterol contained therein. There is some correlation between the standard lipid panel measurement and an Apo B reading, but it is not 100% and varies.
Disclaimer, I am not a MD. This is just my understanding from doing plenty of research on the issue.
