I can’t remember exactly what it was about the F-104 that made them so dangerous. But it seems like they were prone to going into a stall that was almost impossible to recover from.

Good grief, just look at that thing. Who thought that was a good design? Problematic T-tail and stubs for wings, so no low speed lift or control. Once in a stall with that tail configuration, good bye.

I have much respect for anybody that got in that thing and flew it.

I wish I could remember the livery on the Mobile park F14

It’s a VF-31 Tomcatter F14 A Tarps bird - or at least it was a few years ago when I was there. They could have changed it out by now.

After leaving port and headed to Hawaaii VF-11 was doing a SS flyby and starboard engine had a catastrophic failure. Discovery got footage of it (I think a panel got ingested). Both pilot and RIO were picked up and investigators got Discovery footage to do investigation it was that good compared to anything else.
Yeah - that pilot was Rick “Biscuit” Lucas - went through advanced flight training with him. He and his RIO were very lucky. The mishap was attributed to something called “Afterburner Burn-Through” caused by a faulty afterburner can. This situation actually happened several other times, as well, although not all those crews were as fortunate as Biscuit and his RIO in punching out out alive. The Navy didn’t figure out the cause of the problem until the end of my ‘96 cruise. Due to the uncertainty, we flew that entire cruise under orders not to use burner unless in an emergency (…and there were a lot of “emergencies” )

Honorable mention, Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9, only because I don't believe it has had a shout out so far.

The Eagle is undefeated in air to air combat and after nearly 50 years in service, it's still considered an extremely dominate air superiority fighter on the global scale. It's basically zero threat to an F22.
Watched a show on the F-22 a couple years ago where one F-22 was matched against four F-15’s in a simulated combat mission. It shot down all four F-15’s with no problem. The F-15 guys said they never saw it or knew it was there until they were shot down.

Interviewed a couple of F-22 pilots who were former F-15 drivers and they all said the 22 is by far superior to the 15.

My father-in-law flew the F-86. It was a good looking plane.

He did say that. He also said, "When I saw Mustangs over Berlin, I knew the war was lost."

Why is it you think a BUFF can't drop a JDAM just as accurately as anyone else?

Because I’m old and when I was calling them in it couldn’t. Of course that ugly old bastard always seem to get upgrades which is why it has stick around so long.

My son is an aero E working on the next set of upgrades on the Buff for Boeing.

I've listed my favorites, but the P-51 is my all-time of all-times. And this P-51B is probably my favorite of the all P-51 schemes.

Don Gentile and his famous Shangri-la. His story is worth reading.

Gentile with is wingman John Godfrey. Arguably the greatest team/duo in the USAAF in WWII.

Growing up in Shreveport, and having Barksdale so close, I am able to watch B-52’s daily. Years ago A-10’s were a daily sight too. I miss them.

Ok while y’all are here, would anyone tell me what is pulling this German seaplane (BV Seadragon)?

What sort of German WWII era, tracked vehicle, is this?
