It's less about getting hurt and more about being effective. The risk of injury is always there with pitchers, and it is usually due to extended overuse, not from one or two outings in a row. The real problem is if you go out and pitch in a live game and your arm is still sore, you're getting shelled. Paul Skenes included

Here are the guidelines that are followed for the most part. By definition, these are not actual rules that are enforced. An example of this is when the Stanford pitcher threw about 330 pitches on short rest in the super regional.

Schilling pitched on 3 days rest twice in the '01 WS, going 21 innings in 7days. It's not a rare thing in post-season play.

If he wants to help his team win and feels good, in an isolated championship series as opposed to chronically, let his arse pitch. On the same token, if he's not feeling it, since he's not accustomed to it, he cheers for his team and we thank him for getting us here.
