I've been in a similar situation at a similar age. There's a difference between bullying, and an entire young world turning against you. It fricked me up for a long time. I would venture to say I didn't get truly over it for 15 years or so. That level of loneliness kills the soul.

Same and is why, even in my 40s I have trust issues and cannot establish friendships due to anxiety. Will this person hurt me? What are they trying to get from me? Always in my head and as such I’ve decided to just accept the loneliness the past 40 years.

I've been open about it, but some a-hole idiot kid spread a rumor that my psoriasis (which I couldn't do anything about) was a communicative disease. I went more than 3 quarters of a school year in a new school with nobody willing to sit near me, eat with me at lunch, and just be my friend. I don't even really blame him anymore, I blame the teachers that let that shite go unchecked. The only adults in the situation failed me to a degree that I know now is gross negligence. It's why I have issues with poor leaders, I have seen the ramifications.
