We had safety stand downs regularly when I flew in the Corps. Not everything is dramatic like a blockbuster thriller.
Do they always do Corps wide stand down of every aviation unit for a non fatal crash?

In your experience, what were your Corps wide stand downs for?

I was in the infantry so I don’t know. It was a sincere question.

Lol no joke. A stand down really just means some poor staff officer is clicking through a bunch of slides that no one is looking at, and then a sign in sheet is going around which will mysteriously have about triple the number of signatures on it as there were attendees. All so some LtCol can tell a Col who can tell a one or two star who can tell the commandant "sir, we immediately conducted a stand down to emphasize the seriousness of safety"

Sounds like it's safety day, not a ground stop.
If there was a fear of nefarious action they would ground all the suspected aircraft.

How many times did you have zombie fighter jets flying around?

Just spoke with a buddy who works on those types of aircraft. He didn't have any inside info, but he is betting he was new to the plane, possibly fainted, or just got scared and ejected. Says he has seen it happen a few times.
Did your buddy also mention there is a known issue with the oxygen delivery system in the F35s? Hypoxic people do irrational things, such as punching out when there isn't a good reason.
ETA: Not saying that's the reason, but it could be a reason.

I thought they fixed that.

I don't know. All I'm finding are articles from 2021 where Congress says it needs fixed, but no follow up saying it was or wasn't fixed.

I would assume all of that would have been communicated to tower.
As I said, You are clearly not a pilot. First, he wouldn’t be talking to a tower, he’d be talking to Approach or Center. Second, an emergency like that could happen suddenly.
As I posted, dozens of things could have happened. What if he discovered a venomus snake in the cockpit? What if an electrical fire started ginning out smoke? What if he had a seizure and could not fly the plane?
Maybe the pilot just panicked and chickened out, but there are all kinds of possibilities, and these posters saying there are no exculpatory circumstances are full of baloney.

So you ditch an $80,000,000 plane?
Posted on 9/18/23 at 8:30 pm to MrLSU
When rescuers arrived at the pilot he was ordering a Chik-Fil-A Combo Meal with a DP down the street from his landing point.

Fighter pilots are the best of the best, it’s not supposed to be easy. Make up all the BS excuses you want, most of the time some BS like this happens it’s human error and most of the time it’s because someone was allowed through that should not have been allowed due to some BS reason.

He did not mention that. However I'm sure if it's an ongoing thing, he does know. Correct though, could be a thousand different things

If I remember correctly, we had one after a mishap (not in my squadron, though).
