Hot Springs with Kids

Taking the kids (11 & 7) up to Hot Springs, Arkansas for a long weekend. We will arrive around lunch on Thursday and stay until Sunday. Planning to let them do Magic Springs on Saturday since they're only open on weekends this time of year. We're just going to wing it I guess on Thursday afternoon and Friday. Any suggestions on what to do during those times? Thanks.

I have 2 the same age. They enjoyed the bathhouses and some of the small hikes around the national park. We always go to Bubbalu's for burgers and fries. Super nice owners that are always working.

There is an amazing science center/children's museum with a Dinosaur walk about 20 minutes or so away. It was impressive.

Garvan Gardens is also worth a visit. Beautiful and definitely "magical" enough to keep kids entertained. DeLuca's pizza is probably one of the best pizza joints in the south. Really, really solid. As someone else said, the Mid-America Science Museum is a cut above a lot of the cookie cutter "science/discovery museums" that seem to be in every larger city these days.

I just ate at both last weekend. Grateful Head has really gone downhill since last time I ate there. They have a second restaurant now, and they've "simplified" everything (to the point that there wasn't even that much on the menu I found appealing).
Anyway, Deluca's is 10X the restaurant that Grateful Head is (which makes me sad, because our whole crew who went to Grateful Head are old Deadheads and have loved that restaurant in the past).

Hot Springs is home to the best pizzeria outside the NJ-NY-CT tri-state region in Deluca’s. We are not very fond of Hot Springs as a national park and think of it as the second least impressive after only Indiana Sand Dunes, which does not deserve the title of national park.
Just north of Hot Springs, we had fun mining for crystals at Ron Coleman’s Mines. Bring a change of clothes because you will get filthy. It is best the day of them bringing a load of dirt/stones from their mine.
We found the trails in Hot Springs not very strenuous, and the tower at the top of the hill felt like a tourist trap from what I imagine 1975 was like. The bath houses reminded me of what the NOAC felt like back in my youth. They were not of interest to me. Getting the fresh spring water around town and on the trails was fun. Touring that huge hotel that is in utter disrepair was interesting, but I would not stay there.
If the kids are into baseball history there is a mildly interesting self tour of important baseball spots around town, including where Babe Ruth hit one of his first home runs. Mountain Valley Springs store is neat, but the actual spring is no longer open for tours. It is only about fifteen minutes north of the park.
The children will likely enjoy a visit to Anthony Chapel where they can pray and read the Book of Common Prayer with you in its glass walled interior. It is beautiful. There is a garden there with entrance fees we did not do.

Eat breakfast here Best Cafe and Bar. Really good breakfast some of best eggs Benedict I’ve had.

We went last July and spent half a day here. There was a decent diner not far from it as well. The botanical gardens South of down town are nice too. There is an amazing Chapel there which was designed by a guy who apprenticed under Franklin Lloyd Wright. Also a place called Phils for breakfast.
