Hot, wet, covered in wasps and mosquitoes
Box stand

Saw lots of deer after the weather quit this morning. Been quiet the last couple hours. Got to watch one deer jump over another one and bust its arse after a loud crack of thunder. Funniest thing I've ever seen one do.

Was waiting for one of those old queen does to step out. Would have had to skin those things like a rabbit.

MS south of Woovull, surprised the shite out of me too. I don’t think I’ve seen fawns that small in bow season

ETA: doe wasn’t big either, like she was an early drop last year, and then got bred in march or something

See I think the rut is later than we think. Deer season should start later and go into feb with rifle ending feb 10 then bow only to end feb

It’s more of a one off IMO. I’ve been hunting on this property and right down the road in Wakefield/Rosemound area for almost 30 years and this was a first for this area, or ever for me. I’ve seen some fawns as late as mid December but spots were fading, they were never close to that size, even for opening week of bow season these would be small. They looked like cocker spaniels out there, the doe looked young too. We have a few old does running around here pushing 140, which is what I’m looking for.

Our peak primary rut is the first week of January, with pre rut kicking in right around Christmas. There’s definitely a secondary rut late Jan-early Feb, and this is probably a result of a much rarer tertiary rut end of Feb-early March from an early drop the year prior.
