Ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy to remove kidney stones?

Is ultrasound lithotripsy not an option?

Painless outside of the first post-op piss.

I had a Cystoscopy a couple months ago...wasnt too bad for having a camera stuck up your pee hole

Had it done, drove up in the morning. They won’t let you drive home. Had a friend pick me up. About two hours later, I went back and picked up my truck, went about the rest of the day. About 10-12 days later, the stent was removed. The next day I drove 8 1/2 hours, 550 miles. No problem.

I had a stone that was not passing on its own, Dr said she would stick a tube into the kidney and zap it and or pull it out, well I know a little about anatomy and asked how she was going to get to my kidney by sticking a tube down my throat.... She laughed and said she was not going to be sticking a tube down my throat

anyway she must of scared me into passing it, cause the next morning I passed it all on my own

I actually don’t know the answer. I’ll have to check.
A quick rundown. I’m in my 40s. This is my fifth or sixth stone over 15 years. I’ve had this bout for about 3 months now, which is not unheard of for me. This stone is 5mm with a possible second one hidden behind it. Another small one in the kidney that he’ll try to snag. Maybe that gives some light into why sound wave therapy not offered. But I will follow up with doc on this.

Like it’s been said the stents are the worst part of it. Nothing strenuous for me while they were in because I was pissing blood for two months with no shut off valve. I don’t care if I had to stop driving and jump out in the middle of the road if I had the urge it was happening. It makes me nauseous to read that you guys had stents removed while awake. I was put back under for removal no way they were doing that with me awake.

Had a stent removed for a kidney stone when awake. They shoot numbing gel up your pee hole. Not too bad on the pain scale but the first piss after the procedure felt like the fire of a thousand suns. The worse part of a stent to me is the constant feeling of having to urinate. I had lithotripsy a couple of times, but it was external. Was awake for the procedure and felt no pain.

I had a kidney stone that was too big to travel down the urethra, so I ended up needing a lithotripsy. I don’t even remember having a stent.

What I do remember is that the absolute worst thing was the kidney stone exiting the kidney.

Nothing after that (the lithotripsy, the many exams, the blood draws, the passing of the remnants, etc) even came close to the pain and discomfort of that first night.

So if the doctor saw a large stone in my kidney and wanted to break it up before it left the kidney, I would tend to listen to them.
The only thing I’m not sure on is how big is too big to pass, because I passed a pretty large remnant and it wasn’t really a big deal. It felt weird as hell coming out, but it wasn’t pain like what I felt before.

I can tell you the option you have. My friend had stones, she put off getting them removed. They blocked, she went septic, almost died. Had both legs removed below the knee and a few end of her fingers removed. Your choice.

Two pieces of advice. I had the scope in the piss hole. That’s been about a year ago. The actual procedure is super uncomfortable going in, but coming out felt like I was being pulled inside out like a tube sock coming off a foot. Additionally, I haven’t pissed right since.

I’ve had two bouts of kidney stones. I’d do the piss hole scope again in a heartbeat to avoid another bout of kidney stones.
