What is LSU’s strength from a coaching standpoint? I’m honestly curious. I have no idea.

He’s real good at inbound plays, which is what matters to LSU fans.

Development? No
Defense? No
Recruiting? No
Building interest in the program? No
Draw up plays on a dry erase board? Yes

Extend him now!

Mac might we quit because he literally can do nothing that will please these ppl. He could win 20 plus games a year multiple SEC titles and it will never be enough. All because they claim he is boring.

well that’s dumb. Even the rantards would be happy with multiple SEC championships.

It’s a pretty giant leap to assume people who are upset with 6 conference wins in 28 games would be upset with multiple conference championships. In fact, the only people I’ve seen downplaying a conference championship lately are the hardest of the hardcore McMahon supporters when they brush off Wade’s like it was nothing.

I don't get a lot of LSU games but I have seen enough. I'm not going to split the baby into recruiting vs game day coaching. But it is incredibly obvious to me that LSU doesn't have the talent. As I've said in another thread, when in 3 years of signings, you only have one top 60 player according to the recruiting services (Ward BTW at #41 in his class), unless you get a shocking overachiever you are SOOL. And LSU hasn't had that pleasant surprise. LSU is fielding the type of team you would expect with mediocre talent in a major conference.

And IMO one of the main measuring sticks...let's call it net upsets. LSU this season and last season had many, many chances to pull upsets since they are underdogs in almost every SEC game. This season, the only upset LSU pulled IMO was Ole Miss. Meanwhile, LSU IMO got upset by Nichols and Syracuse OOC...thus -1 net. And once again, LSU has been underdogs in so many games. Good coaches can pull upsets more than LSU has...even with inferior talent.

We were 3 point favorites.

The only true game we won we weren't favorites in was Aggie

Syracuse beating our arse might've been an upset but not them winning at home. It's a middle of the road power conference team beating a bottom of the pack power conference team not like Nicholls.

The only thing I disagree with is the title, basketball is recruiting no dudes are coming to play for a year on a losing program. Pete Jenkins DL are well coached but Who he coaches must be “talented” Pete ain’t bringing in those DL and McBland ain’t bringing in No Dudes.

But they play w/ grit and he has a Nice Family.

Thanks, I didn't go through 20+ betting lines, but you see my point. BTW, same deal last year...you play 18 conference games and you win 2? Seriously? The only reasons I can think of that you can't pull some upsets are 1) bad coach 2) bad recruiting. I know that 2) applies here because just look at the roster.

I love when people bring up getting torched on the defensive end of the court as a sign of bad coaching. We have multiple players who have insufficient lateral quickness. We then play help ball defense which gets us off balance or we play the switch and have to chase a man to the goal which people were saying was great after a win. When you have an adequately talented defense you switch a lot in college. Which Will Wades defenses did a ton of. Go back, they switched almost everything on defense for picks because they were Uber talented. We don’t have that luxury and it shows.

Bama switched on to Baker as often as they could today which made us play help and then popped the ball out to shoot 3s. Bama consistently made our defense help off and then rotated the ball around the court which left them with wide open 3s.

And I'm saying this not knowing the answer, what is South Carolina's recruiting rankings? Given that they were picked to finish last I'd say probably not too good but perhaps they have one or more shocking overachiever?

LSU is the only team whose recruits are all way overrated and this has only been true since the current coach arrived. On the flip side everyone else’s players are vastly underrated and all play above their ratings. We have to realize that all the old standards have been thrown out in order to lie about McMahon.

Talent still is part of the equation and a ton of good coaches still fail because they can’t identify talent or can’t get it to campus.

Madking, what do you think the ceiling for this team was comprised of the current players? Genuinely asking.

We’re not lacking talent and if you go compare the player rankings plus experience and productive veterans you won’t find 5 teams in the SEC with more. The ceiling for this roster is 3rd or 4th in the conf, the ceiling with an avg coach should’ve been 11 SEC wins but we’re going to fall well short of that.

Y’all put way too much stock into stars in recruiting rankings . Even if you wanted to go that route let’s look at our starting 5 today against a top 15 Alabama team . Trae Hannibal started at the 1 and he wouldn’t start on any other team in this conference . Mike Williams started at the 2 , and while he is having a very solid first season , he’s a freshman that wasn’t highly recruited . Jordan Wright started at the 3 and he was not highly recruited out of high school and ended up at vandy . Reed and baker were both guys who were recruited heavily but baker couldn’t cut it at texas and ended up going to Nevada . Reed while showing signs of potential has been inconsistent at best . I am in no way defending Matt McMahon and still don’t think he will be the guy , but let’s not act like he’s working with a ton of a talent . Guys like Williams , ward , Reed , and chest need to be developed and show signs of more Growth next year and he needs to hit on some portal guys . Hopefully the two incoming freshman can help next year . If it’s another bad season in 2024-25 I don’t think anyone will be defending CMM anymore

We are out talented by 80% of teams in SEC with. Team plays better offense and much better effort and defense than with WW. He had WAY more to work with. We just don’t have the Jimmies and Joes yet.

For anyone who has coached or played basketball and knows the game, this team is not lacking due to coaching. We are struggling due to talent and it’s apparent.

Actually we are talented and poorly Coached.

Rotations trash. Top scorer getting benched. Literally has already lost the team. Players have a good game one game, then play ten minutes the next game, then 30 the next. Players in and out of the “Coach’s doghouse.”

Dean needs to play more, Baker not doing what we hoped he would here - not on a short leash tho like Cook.

Naw he is not a good Coach.
