People act like Spirit is going to kill them when all major carriers now offer deals like Spirit. If you understand the pricing going in and know if their is a delay you are SOL then you will be fine.
I used to fly Spirit all the time when they offered $35-60 RT flights out of MSY to various cities in the South.

Extra charges is not the same as "deals" like Spirit.
Spirit offers discounted airfare at low base rates and gives you the option to add more.
Other major airlines offer standard / inflated airfare prices and gives you the option to add more.
