re: Once considered a Louisiana success story, this company is now weighing bankruptcy

’ve seen plenty of twenty somethings use services like Door Dash consistently because they simply don’t want the inconvenience of having to go get the food themselves. At the same time, they whine constantly about being unable to pay their bills on the incomes that they have.
I posted this in another thread about it, but it blows my mind...the people I see use it the most are those w the least money. I have a tech level therapist who door dashes herself breakfast every morning and sometimes lunch...she makes $16/hour

Most of that pay out was in stock when company went public. Hopefully he was able to sell it at the right time

The shite costs too much. I don't know how any of them stay in business.

I ordered KFC a while back to try out Door Dash.
$36 dollars including tip but since it was the first order delivery was "free". Would have been over $40 for an order that was probably around $22 at the drive through,
frick that.

When I’m watching football and been drinking or when I’m sick with the flu. That’s the only times I’ve been able to justify the cost of ordering on a delivery app

I despise ordering delivery, especially through the use of these apps. I remember talking to a restaurant during COVID while waiting for my food to be ready. A ton of orders came in through Waitr and they explained how they have to drop everything they're doing just to fulfill their Waitr orders and pushback orders coming into the store. The big issue I noticed was that you were damned if you did, damned if you didn't. During COVID you NEEDED Waitr/Uber Eats/Doordash otherwise you were not getting business. On top of that, the companies charge up to 30% on all tickets no matter what. If you order a $100 dinner, Waitr got $30 just for having the platform available. It's an absolute racket. In case most people haven't noticed, the app prices are higher than actual in-restaurant menu prices.
The only positive things I can see through using the apps (outside of convenience) are being able to look through local options a lot easier than having to visit each location's website and being able to use a gift card (specific to each app) to pay for any of the restaurants on their platforms, which included almost every restaurant near you.

Not sure how long the hold was but there’s always a hold.

I thought WAITR went bankrupt in 2019?
Posted on 4/1/24 at 4:28 pm to WeeWee
Meaux could reap another $134,000 if he were to sell his 83,333 shares of Waitr stock, which was previously restricted. In 2018, Meaux's total compensation package was worth $3.4 million, with base salary of $150,000.
Went public in 2018 and cratered in 2019, $900,000,000 to $143,000,000.

And because customers are paying those prices for delivery, the fast food chains think they can charge that for all customers, dine in or drive through

There’s a place for this service but not enough customers for all these competitors

I use Food apps regularly. Waitr was always the longest wait time and most expensive compared to Uber Eats and Door Dash. I actually had a restaurant once tell me not to use Waitr b/c they were a PITA and always late.

We went to a local Chinese place Sat night for the dinner. We were one of only two tables being served at the restaurant.
During the hour or so we were there, we counted at least 10 different take out orders, all of whom seemed to be a delivery app of some kind. (Determined by the person getting the order putting the food into a warming bag usually with a logo on it.)
There was one front of house employee who was waiting on the two tables, and also handing out the delivery orders.
