I've had that fear for a while. After I went fishing one time and rigged up a bait, gave it to a kid to hold, before I was going to cast it out for the kid. I didn't want the boat dirty, so I let the bait dangle off the side, barely dipping into the surface. Shark grabbed it immediately, as soon as it touched and nearly snatched the rod out of the kids hands. That shark would have hit anything dipped in the water.

Yep, I don't even want to get the hook out of an alligator gar much less a shark.

Was fishing flats in the keys and the guide had a shrimp on hook hanging just above the water. Shark took it and the rod. We did retrieve the rod after it wedged in coral and broke the line about 200 yards away.

Was fishing Mechant one spring, caught a big gafftop. Left him out of the boat, grabbed pliers to unhook him. I lifted his head and was reaching for the hook with the pliers when a shark hit the catfish. Its head was 14 or so inches wide.....

I normally just give sharks a few stabs with the Dexter before cutting their face off the hook

used to go white trout fishing out of the fourchon rigs and did good till we brought up only lips and eyeballs. The trips ended when lifting the trout out of the water, a shark would follow it up 2-4 feet out of water

Back in the day when Snappers were plentiful as the day is long, we would jump in the water for a swim after the last fish was caught for a limit. It was fun and refreshing since it was normally hot as frick at that point. However that all stopped when we had about a 12’ Hammerhead literally swim under my feet. I about shite myself.

Last snapper of the day out of Venice got railroaded by an about 8-10 ft dusky shark. Was pulling him up almost out the water and the shark came from underneath the boat, everyone was on the rail watching the last fish come in. Damn thing was so big it inhaled the whole 10-12 lbs snapper. Not bite it and run and pull up the head. Whole fish was gone in one bite. That’s thing had to be 600lbs at least and was gone in the blink of an eye.

They damn well knew the shark was there. "2 seconds won't do anything"

Idk why you got so many downvotes. I’m sick and tired of pulling up snapper heads over the past 2-3 years, and having the taxman tear up expensive tackle. I’ve read that splitting one open and tossing it back over the side will keep his buddies away, will definitely be trying that this year.

That baw got back in the boat real fast o

Yeah I never reach over the boat, into the water to grab a fish. Especially in saltwater and when offshore. Seen people get their hands nearly ripped off when reaching over the boat, to grab a Snapper.

try this next time the taxman gets you. position prop to the hooked fish, make a bunch of bubbles with the prop and the sharks go away. i dont know why but the sharks dont like it. we did it everytime and got a limit of snapper

Don’t know, don’t care. Only good shark is a dead one, and anyone that comes up on my line is getting shanked or shot.
