I love using 2500 series spinning reels. Prefer Daiwa and Shimano, but they are just lighter and more fun to handle all day chasing specks. Never had issues on the Reds i hook into either. Just run 15-20lb braid on mine.
Rods- Their are so many good ones now, I prefer 7' and 7'6 ML and M rods. Waterloo, Falcon Coastal XG, Daiwa. They are all lightyears ahead of anything we used to get 20 years ago. But the old All Stars still hold a spot in my heart!
