We'll make it this year. Just treat Hoover as a play in.

Did you know Skip wasn't his real name?

And Skip didn't exactly have a championship pedigree that LSU has now, no portal or NIL to build his roster, and wasn't coming off of a national championship season.

I still believe in CJJ, but he needs a big offseason and can't afford to swing and miss on his transfers/recruits.

I think LSU will be fine.

But Johnson's career history does give a little reason for concern.

In his first year at Arizona he took them to the CWS championship series. The program then progressively got worse in the 3 years that followed:

38-21 (NCAA Regionals)
34-22 (No postseason)
32-24 (No postseason)

The 2020 season didn't start out great (10-5) before it was ended prematurely.

Then, in 2021 he took Arizona back to the CWS.

The resources and commitment at LSU are greater than at Arizona. So it should be easier to "rebuild" at LSU. But this season wouldn't be the first time he's dropped off significantly in the wake of a great season.

Hopefully not, but he may be one of those coaches with extreme peaks and valleys vs. a consistent plateau. The question is as a fan what would you prefer?:

Great season, followed by 1-2 disappointing seasons, followed by another great season?

OR

Very good seasons year, after year, but no championships ?

What's that got to do with this year ? I doubt Skip made as many stupid tactical mistakes as Johnson has made this season. Skip made his program, and didn't win a championship with Jack Lamabe's talent.

Wrong about 1987-
We won the Regional at UNO.
That was the year Stanford’s Paul Carey hit the very historic grand slam off Ben to beat us in the CWS semi finals.
I still am pained to this day remembering that game.

It was 1988.
