Jones and Murphy came from the same draft class. Jones has massively outperformed him (Jones is a finalist for DPOY). They play the same position and role. Murphy is more than likely going to be his back up. But you want to pay Murphy more than double on the hope that he becomes a 20+ppg bench player as the 4th or 5th option?

Just because he can be paid that much doesn't mean we have to be the ones to give it to him. He's a good player, possibly a solid starter as a specialist. I just wouldn't give him a big deal and make him a top 3 guy on my squad. Guys like him are valuable, on rookie deals. Not so great when they cash in..

Lets make a deal, if Trey signs a contract valued less than Herb, I wont post here until September (and I love my damn Summer League Threads). However, if he DOES sign a contract valued more than Herbs, you dont post here until October.

I am sure Murphy gets more. I just wouldn't give it to him. I don't think he's earned it or will be worth it in the future. All these scenarios include diminishing or benching Jones. I'm not for that.

Project the team into next season-

PG- need a massive upgrade and Alvarado

SG- McCollum, Hawkins and Daniels

SF- Jones, Murphy, Marshall (once Ingrams traded)

PF- Zion, need a back-up

C- Val, need a back-up

So where is Murphy playing and starting? This is after trading Ingram. Are you benching Jones or playing McCollum at PG again, which killed our team? These are the tough choices that have to be made..
