I've seen more wealthy people ask and middle class people not then complain after seeing the bill.

Yeah my FIL is almost downright embarrassing to go out to eat with sometimes. He penny pinches like a mfer in all facets of his life too. But he is one of the more wealthy individuals that I personally know.
He would definitely ask. Then he would probably ask, "Why the hell is it that much?"
