Cain was an incredibly lazy hire. He was starting to come into his own. But at the time he was made recruiting coordinator, he had only been an Ops guy and a Volunteer. Neither of those roles include off campus recruiting or scouting.

He was allowed to learn on the job at LSU, which shouldn't be happening at the salaries we pay. And it was done at a time when the HC had essentially abdicated all off campus recruiting responsibilities.

Mainieri got out on the road earlier, that's how he met and built a relationship with Cannizaro, but by the time Cain came around Mainieri wasn't talking to recruits outside of his office. Similar to how Van Horn has been doing things for about a decade. And how Schlossnagle was doing things at TCU and probably how he's doing them at A&M.
