Changing flight booked through travel agent

We have a flight booked for our upcoming trip to Barcelona. Booked through travel agent. American Airlines changed the time of our flight to Dallas from KC putting us there about 1:35 before our flight to Barcelona. It was originally scheduled about two hours earlier. I attempted to have travel agent change it to an earlier flight that is available but he said we would have to cancel all flights and rebook. Any of you had this issue with American and been able to get it changed without travel agent?

Do you have the confirmation code for AA? What happens if you log in there using that record locator and click change flights?

Is there a reason you aren't okay with 1:35 layover?
It's not like you have to re-check your bags or anything. Maybe changes your dinner plans but I wouldn't blow up a whole itinerary over that.

If there is no cost change, this is normal. My travel agent (corporate) constantly books and rebooks.
With that being said, that is plenty enough time to transition in Dallas.
AA is in OW with Iberia, so they could technically fly you to MAD then BCN or LHR-BCN with BA if for some reason you missed your connection.

I assume you are on the 7:15pm direct.
There is a 9:20pm that connects in LHR.
There is a 9:50pm that connects in MAD.
There is an 11:00pm that connects in LHR.

What's the issue with having the agent do that? I apologize for being obtuse but it should be no charge and that's their job right?

As long as your flight is not delayed, an hour and a half should be enough time. If it is going to be an ordeal to book another flight, I would probably just take my chances.
