I wasn’t around for the alydar/affirmed battles but I’m glad I got to see Sunday silence/easy goer.

Sometimes in the older mare division we’ll get a few of the good ones staying around. Malathaat/clariere/letruska was always fun to see in the entries.

I wish horse racing would push the big names after the triple crown. I’d live to see some match races like the old days.

We were spoiled in the 70s. After the great horse won, we were treated to the Affirmed/Alydar rivalry, and their Belmont race is probably the best battle of all time given the stakes. They were neck and neck the final mile.

Seattle Slew had won the TC in 77, Affirmed in 78 and we should have had the hat trick with Spectacular Bid in 79 but reports that he'd stepped on a safety pin the morning of the Belmont stopped the streak.

Greatest horse race I ever saw outside of Secretariat's winged victory at the Belmont.
