But Jay hit Beloso leadoff in Game 3 of the championship series last year, and tried Bear at leadoff for a while this year, so I don't think he's really married to anything. He may even flip Larson and Pearson at some point. He wants to give his team the best chance to score in the 1st and to give his best hitters the best chance at having the most ABs that particular day.

And as great as it would be if Milam was hitting well enough to hit lead-off as a switch hitter, if the lineup rolls over and we're down by 1 in the 9th in a must-win game, you can't have him come up with the game on the line while Larson is sitting further down in the lineup and may not get a chance. Not this year, anyway. Especially when they could bring in a lefty and turn him around to hit right-handed (although he's gotten much better from that side as the season has progressed) and we don't have many (any?) guys on the bench you can really trust right now to come in and PH.

But a lot can change in the next month. Some guys step up when the lights get brighter. We saw it last year. But that offense was crazy deep with guys who had done it before. We're probably gonna need a couple of Kling, Neal, Bingham, and a couple of pitchers that we're not really able to count on right now to turn it on to make a serious run deep into the postseason (assuming we make it). Only problem is will they even have the opportunities left to gain that trust. It's not likely, but we'll see. That's part of what makes late season college baseball so exciting. Just get in and anything can happen.
