I respect that he didn't and just went about his business of effectively running his state.

Your lack of self awareness is amazing. You and every other Trump-hater spent 2 years assigning views to Trump supporters. If you've been paying attention, you would realize that you continue to do it as well. I've been a Trump supporter since the beginning and have yet to see even one of you describe my motives accurately. It's OK to not like Trump, but you shouldn't have to be a hypocrite to do it.
