The real problem is these guys tend to take 3-5 years to make a real impact. With the portal, guys don't need to wait around anymore to get their shot. Then, even if they're willing to wait, you can't just keep them on the roster for 4 years if some stud transfer needs a roster spot.

You'll likely still have a couple, but gone are the days of low ranked guys waiting in the wings for 3 years before they turn into 22 year old all conference players.
