I saw it as stern but respectful frustration. It's not like the members hadn't decided how to vote already, so let em have it.

Like I said, I don’t hold it against him. And I don’t disagree with you that everyone’s minds were likely already made up. But if you come in hot, you’re basically guaranteeing that no one shifts. And if you do dumb shite like the kid who referenced grandstanding politicians, you’re going to immediately solidify the opposition against you. Legislative committees are not set up to be “fair”. It’s absolutely inside baseball. If you’re going to lose at the committee level, the important thing is to put out good sound bites that can be used when it goes to a floor debate. Your emotional righteous indignation doesn’t translate well.
