The run of London Calling, Sandinista!, and Combat Rock was an amazing run of music. Back-to-back-to-back incredible albums. They left their pure punk phase and went hard experimenting with different things. Some of it worked, some of it didn't, but they definitely paved the way for many genre-bending bands following them.
Then Topper got kicked out for heroin and it went downhill. Seeing interviews with him, you feel for him. He knows he fricked up and caused the downfall of the band.
Strummer will always be a legend to me. When I discovered The Clash at age 14, it opened my eyes to so many other types of music.
